Late arvo update

Posted on July 22nd, 2008 in Collaroy, Dee Why.

Hello Friends,

When I ran out of things I could do to get the site working again this arvo, I took the only reasonable action under the circumstances – I went for a wave! And when I get back, ‘lo, things seem to have stabilised again. I decided against joining the 50 or so bods at DY point and instead took the long board out for a few at the Kick. Some fun ones came through and PB reckons he got his best Kick wave ever. Anyway, here’s a pic to give you a feel for the sets…

Just on dusk, I climbed up in the RealSurf crow’s nest for a last look at the point. Some very solid sets coming through as the sun sank in the west. Wave faces on the bigger ones looked to be in the 1.5x overhead range.

Just had a look at the MHL data and the latest update shows the swell has gone from 2m at 10 sec from the south this morning, to 3 metres at 12 seconds late this afternoon. It still looks as though the swell will hit peak size overnight and then begin a gradual decline through tomorrow. but it should stay solid and fun size into the early weekend.

Thanks for putting up with our patchy service today. We’re scrambling to organise more resources, but it’s possible that things could be bumpy tomorrow if we get another big influx of traffic. That’s the challenge you face with a big redesign and move – until you go live, you just don’t know for sure what’ll happen.

Go well with your evening!

Gotta love technology

Hello Friends

Um… we got a bit more traffic than we expected this morning and it’s kinda knocked us sideways! Various tech people are waving magic wands and muttering incantations at recalcitrant servers… so… with luck the weirdness will gradually decrease today… Unlike the swell which is Macking!!

Should have pics and reports coming back online as the server settles down… fingers crossed!

Dee Why looking mighty fine…

Posted on July 22nd, 2008 in Dee Why.

ROB’S EYE ON DEE WHY 0830: Right on schedule, the new swell has arrived this morning. Dee Why is enjoying a clean South swell and about 10 knots of westerly wind. Sets are already into the head high plus region and you can see it continuing to build. Don’t be lulled into believing it’s going to stay where it is. I’d say by mid-afternoon we’ll be into 8ft territory and 2 to 3X overhead sets.  Right now it’s perfect. Get out there if you can. Kids are back at school and the crowd factor’s not too bad so far.  Mabe a dozen on the Point. Cheers, Rob

Poor Schoolies

Kids go back to school and the swell hits. Not fair. Good for us oldies though. Solid swell from the SE. Too big for Bondi but Bronte and Tama holding quite well, should improve with the tide. Now off to school kids.
