Fun little A-frame pops up around 430

Hello Friends,

Just checking in to share a couple pics I managed to get during a 5 min. burst of sunshine in the Long Reef-Dee Why area at around 430pm.

As you can see, it looks as though the swell is still around – and those who don’t mind sub-15 degree air and intermittent showers are getting a few clean ones.

We’ve had a couple power outages this arvo, so it’s taking me longer than usual to knock this over!

Not huge, but who'd complain about being in the pocket on this one.

Outlook for tomorrow morning is really pretty similar to what we saw this afternoon, ie 2 metres of SE swell at around the 9-10 sec mark. Over the last couple days, there’s been quite a spread on the MHL buoy between the average and the peak period. It’s still there this evening. Peaks are running close to 13 seconds, so I’m hopeful that, apart from anything else, tomorrow morning will see much the same. The Bureau is currently calling for S-SW winds of 13-18 kts, grading to 18-23 kts out at sea. They reckon the swell will still be SE at 2-2.5 metres. The forecast is says we can expect showers early, but then it should fine up later.

Sounds promising!

2008/2009 parking stickers are starting to appear, so the swap is on again. Works like this – if you have a spare you want to swap, drop an email to stickerswap@hotmail.com with what you want/have in the subject line, i.e. “Have Pittwater, Want Manly”. If you want to buy a sticker, don’t contact me. Contact the relevant council, or post something in the Realsurf forum. Looks as though there still some meaty swell around, though where I looked it’s just very cold shutdowns

The Goat’s Forecast

Posted on July 25th, 2008 in Surf Reports.

Surf forecast issued Friday 25 July 2008: 3 day outlook for Sydney.

Now not looking quite so promising for the weekend.  Swell around 1- 2 metres from the SE with some SW/S winds…With the air and water temps around 17, and the breeze likely to be on the fresh side at times, it’s not for me… I’m out of it just for the moment.

Monday: coming up! 2-3 metres South East.

Btw, as a public service announcement for anyone thinking of going to Bali to escape the cold:  Did you know there’s an epidemic of dengue fever there?… That’s what a mate was told when he spent several days on a drip in hospital with dengue fever and 10 days recovering before coming home, and telling me… I’m not a doctor or a travel agent, but you might want to check it out.  And the dfat advice at www.dfat.gov.au.

Have yourself a bonzer time!

Some Days Are Stay At Home Days.

Posted on July 25th, 2008 in Bronte, Tama.

I would be fibbing if I was to say, “stay at home, it’s no good…”. It’s not that bad, but some days are just designed to be spent at home with a cuppa and some vegemite toast, maybe exploring the new Real Surf web site.

Bronte has some sloppy surfables and Bondi a few but……..some days are stay at home days.

More showers, but waves continue

Posted on July 25th, 2008 in Big Picture.

Hello Friends,

Waiting for the light to improve so I can get a picture or two… so, thought I might as well get on with writing the day’s contribution to RealSurf.

Swell continues its very gradual decline. As things get started, the MHL Sydney buoy is showing just under 2 metres average heights. The main direction is SSE and the power setting has been nudged down to a marginal 8 seconds.

The Bureau’s call is for the wind to be SW 10-15 kts today. As I write this, the automatic weather stations along the Sydney region coast are showing 7-8 kts from W around to SW.

It looks as though Huey will be keeping the settings much the same for the next few days too. Wind is going to be moderate and from the S-SW through the weekend.

In fact, I see little reason to diverge from the Goat’s call yesterday for the weekend surf prospects.

I’m off to hunt down a pic or two for you now…

Hereya go…

I reckon that headland looks sorta like an Etruscan warrior in profile...

Not quite working at Curly

Posted on July 25th, 2008 in Curl Curl, Surf Reports.

We have light SSW winds with a SSE swell at 3-4 feet that’s not quite lining up well this morning.  No one out at 7am and prospects today look limited to the Southern protected corners of which Curly doesn’t have.  Maybe over either (N or S) hill will provide better options. Tomorrow looks OK on the charts- enjoy.

Central Coast Yuk

Posted on July 25th, 2008 in Central Coast, Surf Reports.

Showers, windy and mild on the Central Coast this Friday morning.  The swell is messy and small at 1 – 2 feet + from the south southeast.  There is a light to moderate south southeast blow.  Local barometer 1013 hpa, 98% humidity, 10 degrees C.  Have a good weekend!
