Very cold and showery again
Posted on July 29th, 2008 in Big Picture, Dee Why.From earlier…
Hello Friends,
You gotta admire those tough specimens that think nothing of pulling on a well-iced wettie on a showery morning with the temps hovering around 10. Swell has kicked on overnight. The average size at the MHL buoy is not much changed since dusk yesterday. It’s still dead south, about 4 metres and plugging along at 9 seconds apart. It’s blowing hard out at sea and that’s bumping the peak trace (a combination of sets, seas and swell) into the 7 metre range! Wouldn’t want to be on a little boat out there…
As forecast yesterday, the wind this morning is anywhere from 15-30 kts from the SSW. It’s due to fade back a little as the day goes along. The Bureau says it’ll be 18-23 kts this afternoon. Swell is set to gradually decline through the day, but it’s not going to die away by any stretch of the imagination.
Yesterday around lunchtime, I wandered down to the point for a bit of picture taking. You can check out the snaps here. Depending on how the schedule goes, I’ll see if I can get out and about with the lens again today.
Have yourself a top old day!

Plenty of waves around
Posted on July 29th, 2008 in South Coast.Swell came up monday arvo and is hanging in the 6ft+ range out of the SE. SSW wind wasn’t as strong as predicted, but pretty chilly nonetheless. Should still be some good waves around, tide low just before 11am. Feels like the water temp has dropped a degree or 2 over the last week. Open beaches mostly out of the question (unless you love duckdiving (or your name is Simmo)) but a few places well worth a paddle. Rosco.
SURFBOARDS SOLD OUT IN HIGH BIDDING
Posted on July 29th, 2008 in Top stories.$17,000 raised for Bear Cottage and the Disabled Surfers Association at art surfboard auction.
50+ surfboards painted by local artists were showcased in shop windows around Manly for a month. On July 9, they all went under the gavel.
$17,000 was raised for Bear Cottage and the Disabled Surfers Association. Bidding was fierce and often comical. Husbands were pitted against wives. Even a small child was held up in the air by one bidder in a blatant attempt to guilt a challenger into submission. It worked, but it still cost him just shy of two grand.
What a vibe. A room filled with surfers and artists, surrounded by an art gallery of surfboards. You couldn’t possibly leave without making a bid.
Global Surf Industries hosted the event and donated the 50+ surfboards which were turned into art masterpieces. The money raised will assist with ongoing works for both associations and GSI Managing Director Mark Kelly said that he expected next year to be even bigger.

Another Stay At Home Day
Posted on July 29th, 2008 in Bronte, Tama.Plenty of swell around but it’s as messy as Sonny “Dollar Bill” Williams’ life at the moment. Not a good day at the city beaches, wind, rain, cold… and the swell is all over the place. No point, reef or bank is handling it at all. So heat up the heater, turn on the TV, make a cup of tea and stay home, (or you could just go to work).

Messy at Curly
Posted on July 29th, 2008 in Surf Reports.4-6 foot plus of mess with cross shore winds and pretty much unridable. Try Manly if you are keen, it looked cleaner but tides didn’t look good at 7.30 this morning. S hould be waves all week and favourable winds- enjoy.
Wild and Woolly on the CC
Posted on July 29th, 2008 in Central Coast, Surf Reports.Showers, windy and cold on the Central Coast this Tuesday morning. The swell is wild at 4 – 6 feet from the east southeast. There is a light to moderate south southwest breeze forecast to go southerly and strengthen later. High tide 0515 and low tide around 1045. Local barometer 1007 hpa, 95% humidity, 9 degrees C. Have a good one!
