Cold but pumping
Posted on July 30th, 2008 in At large, Dee Why.Hello Friends,
I’m in awe of those tough sorts that paddled out at first light this morning when the temp was below 10 and the wind was whistling along at 10kts. But given the conditions, one can easily understand. The swell has cleaned up, tide is dropping, and the SSE sets are looking solidly overhead. Not only that, they’re arriving with reasonable regularity.
The crew is all over it at Dee Why point. Lots of folks trying to jam a couple very memorable waves into the gap between first light and turning up at work or school on time. There were a couple attractive looking a-frames down the beach as well.
I’m keen to get down there with a camera, so I might draw a line under this for now, but I plan to be back later on with some fresh new pics for your amusement.
Evening update
Posted on July 30th, 2008 in Dee Why.Hello Friends,
While the tech types were puzzling over our prostrate forums, I was doing what any responsible webmaster of a surf site does when things technical go pear shape – I go surfing! As usual I had the little Olympus 725 tucked into the wettie, so here are a few snaps…
- top marks for getting into this mauler
- Still a few sets getting in on an absolute stunner of an afternoon.
- Looked likeThe ocean was fizzing as the fish were being rounded up by dolphins.
- Nice dark background and front-lighting…
- Belting one at Dee Why point this afternoon.
Where are the forums?
Posted on July 30th, 2008 in At large.845PM
Good news. Ross has waved his special magic wand and our forums are back. That’s a good thing! Apologies for the dead air folks. We should have things fixed now.
710PM
Okay, we aren’t back yet, but I’ve heard from the tech support people and now await a translation from Ross – when he gets home from work this evening.
Hello all,
Another trial for your webmaster – and all the forum folk.
The server hosting the forums has been down for about 8 hours. I have raised job tickets and contacted my tech gods, but as of 605 PM I do not have any information. As soon as I hear something, I will post here on the home page.
The galleries are also offline – probably for the same reason.
Apologies!
FORUM being fixed right now!
Posted on July 30th, 2008 in Site News.Everyone, it appears the forums have experienced a serious problem. Don and Team are working to fix the issue as soon as possible. Apologies for this. There will be a notification once the forums are back online!
HOLD THOSE THOUGHTS.
Curly not happening but everywhere else is!
Posted on July 30th, 2008 in Curl Curl, Surf Reports.Had a cracker at the old stomping ground Freshie this morning with 3-4 foot, light offshore and plenty of barrels. Tomorrow and the next few days look awesome on the charts too so no excuses- enjoy.
Noon update: pumpin’ still
Posted on July 30th, 2008 in At large.Got a few snaps from my wander this morning. Shots from Narrabeen, Little Narra, Warriewood, DY luga, etc
Also managed to shoot a bit of vid at the Luga where the Psillakis brothers had it pretty much to themselves…
If you can possibly get away for a wave, do it!
- Dee Why point around 1100, 30 July 08
- Mike Psillakis finds a pocket near the lugga
- Mark Psillakis finds a nice wall to play on at the luga.
- Shutdown Warriewood style @ 0900
- Big shutdowns on offer at Little Narra…
- Carparks looking utterly unmakeable.
Forums & Galleries off the air
Posted on July 30th, 2008 in Site News.Hi all,
It appears that both our forums and galleries are offline, quite possibly due to an earthquake in LA.
We can only wait until the sysadmins at the service provider deal with the problem.
-Don
Happy surfers
Posted on July 30th, 2008 in Surf Reports. There are still plenty of waves about today but size is a issue.Nearly all beaches will have something to play with in the 2ft range….
Dee Why still looking good
Posted on July 30th, 2008 in Dee Why, Surf Reports.Point was really firing early this morning, and it still is, but has backed off a bit in the last hour or so. Icy cold conditions at DY with 15C on the gauge at the momet. Water down to around 16.8. Still, there is a substantial crowd out at the Point at 1140. I can see about 15. Lots of waves rolling through but rarely an unridded one. SE swell direction is perfect for the Point and there seems to be a light westerly wind making conditions smooth and clean. Crowd factor and the temperature are the only negative issues today. Cheers, Rob
Raw Tide.
Posted on July 30th, 2008 in Bronte, Tama. It’s like looking down on a farmers shed. Perfect corrugated lines rustling in from the SE. Bronte reef nice to nose high and a great left at Tama with just a single jackaroo riding it. Bondi closing out for the backpackers and they’re still having fun. Worth the sickie, just tell your boss you’re a friend of mine.
Ross.
