Sunday arvo
Posted on August 3rd, 2008 in Big Picture, Dee Why.Hello Friends,
We having fun yet Sydney? What a day! Lots of fun options around as Huey gradually winds down the powerometer. I started by checking Curly around midday. Heaps of snappy peaks on offer, but very busy in the water, especially down the south end where I counted around 60 folks adding to their wave counts. Up over the hill and on to Dee Why where it was smaller than Curly, somewhat… okay… very slightly less well attended by Huey’s acolytes. Decided not to spend the day driving around generating greenhouse pollution, so headed to Longy. Got a few in the beachy and it was all good. What a way to spend an hour or two of beautiful Sunday afternoon…
And while I was out, Ross found time to go into the RealSurf engine room where he managed to net the gremlin responsible for messing up our daily image gallery. Pesky li’l devils those gremlins… but you get ‘em when you make the kinds of changes we have lately. Your patience appreciated! BTW, while I can’t always promise to meet every request, I really appreciate it when folks take time to let me know about issues with the site. With something like 60 different versions of the major browsers out there, we just can’t pick up every issue on our own.
Looking at the prospects for the coming week, I’m not too optimistic about our surf prospects. In general it looks as though we’re in for a pretty quiet period. With luck it won’t go flat for another day or two, but right now the models are showing short period and small prospects from late tomorrow through about Friday.
Oh well, I guess it’ll give me time to do some video editing for you all!
Have a top old evening, and stay in touch!
saturday 5 pm
Posted on August 3rd, 2008 in Surf Reports.[s.w. vancouver island] – on saturday at 5 pm: about one-foot – only one, gentle, curved lip forming around the westside boulder reef, at the lost village beach – i dutifully paddled out, alone (after battling my way through hordes of campers) – i waited patiently in too-shallow water, on the boulders, for just the right steepness to take off – i did so, catching a nice little drop down into the shallows – unfortunately, the shallows consists of round smooth boulders, and one of them chopped off my rear left fin, damaging the sockets off the center fin – ah well, we will get it fixed up pronto – marine winds westerly to 15 knots – hopefully, we will get up to a swell shortly, notwithstanding we are entering our surfer’s winter of discontent (a.k.a., august, in the northern hemi) -**********- and as he walked he saw from afar men and women leaving their fields and their vineyards and hastening towards the city gates – and he heard their voices calling his name, and shouting from field to field telling one another of the coming of his ship – k gibran ….

Posted on August 3rd, 2008 in Surf Reports.2008/2009 parking stickers are starting to appear, so the swap is on again but we don’t need any more Warringah stickets at the moment, please. Works like this – if you have a spare you want to swap, drop an email to stickerswap@hotmail.com with what you want/have in the subject line, i.e. “Have Pittwater, Want Manly”. If you want to buy a sticker, don’t contact me. Contact the relevant council, or post something in the Realsurf forum
Curly is on today but smaller than yesterday
Posted on August 3rd, 2008 in Curl Curl, Surf Reports.Clean, 2-4 feet with offshores and medium crowd. Some cranking right handers at south curly again on the sets. Water is freezing at 16 degrees and the wind chill doesn’t help- booties might be handy. It was more crowded an hour ago- and colder. Cracker of a day and plenty of waves- enjoy.
Lovely this morning

0900: Dee Why beach looking the goods
Hello Friends,
Something seems to be amiss with our daily picture gallery. Sigh. Of course I’m chasing it down. (click to see pic in this report) But here’s the important news: it is a glorious morning in Sydney and we still have some waves to play with. Not as big as yesterday, but you can definitely ride them with whatever equipment takes your fancy. Swell is out of the south at couple meters and 11 seconds apart, so sets at south facing beaches should have wave faces in the head high plus range.
Back with more later!

Weekend warriors weren’t put off by the somewhat junky conditions mid-morning at No Mans and Long Reef on Sunday 29 August. Sets were into the shoulder high range and there were...
Saturday morning saw a couple metres of south swell with a period of about 10 seconds lighting up beaches around Sydney. South Narrabeen was looking tasty early with offshore conditions...
What a great weekend! So what if Huey didn’t deliver as expected – the sun shone, the wind blew offshore and there were waves! I burnt a bit of petrol cruising round...
