Late night, Friday
Posted on August 15th, 2008 in Big Picture, Dee Why.Hey all,
I know no one will be reading this… but… here are some more snaps & a few thoughts anyway!
It still looks as though the swell energy should be okay tomorrow morning. Average period is down very slightly from the peak today, but the size at sea is still around the 2.5 metre mark, so I’d say the models’ call for Saturday is looking right on. Figure on chest to head high plus on average sets, and the odd overhead bomb and I think you’ll be about on the money…

Setty, but here
Posted on August 15th, 2008 in Big Picture, Dee Why.Hello Friends,
Beautiful conditions, if a bit cold this morning. Quite a crew in the water at Dee Why point to deal with the fresh-baked south swell. Seemed to be quite a wait between sets though and because the line is so long, the beachy is virtually all close-outs. Biggest sets I saw were in the 1.5x overhead range.
Since yesterday afternoon, the size at sea has only bumped up slightly to around 2.5 metres on average off Sydney. It’s still dead south, but the good thing is that the power setting has crept up another notch from around 10 seconds yesterday to 11 seconds now.
Interestingly, the peak swell energy is currently hitting the Sydney region. It’s almost as big up to around the mid-northcoast from the look of the buoy data, but it’s distinctly smaller down south.
The outlook remains for the swell to chuff along at about this power and size today and into tomorrow, with the peak currently set to reach us during the day Sunday.
Wind is around 10-12kts from the west as I write this and the call is for it to build into the 20-30kt range (although it probably won’t be that strong right inshore). Tomorrow looks like being about the same.
I’m planning to get out and about with a camera (I’ve got Nikon’s D300 to test), so stay tuned for a few more snaps.
Go well!
That was the day that was
Posted on August 15th, 2008 in Big Picture, Dee Why.Hello Friends,
Just wanted to flick up a pic for now to show you how things looked as the sun went down on a great day of surf at south facing spots. I’ll have a few more pics up later…
Swell looks to have backed off a bit, but I’d say it’ll be similar again tomorrow and the models are still calling for a substantial peak around Sunday…
Cronulla
Posted on August 15th, 2008 in Cronulla, Surf Reports.3-4 feet and clean but shutting down
Posted on August 15th, 2008 in Curl Curl, Surf Reports.Bali/ Mentawai = 6 days. 3-4 feet with light offshores and not too many out this morning at Curly. It’s a little too straight and the tide is not great but with the odd blinder. Same again tomorrow and sunday. Enjoy.
lines out of the S
Posted on August 15th, 2008 in South Coast. Not as cold as I was expecting and not as big – yet. 2-3ft lines out of the S, moderate W wind brushing the backs off em. An early high tide not helping. Feels like a lot of swell is going right past. Rosco.
