Ready to surf?
Posted by: Don on August 16th, 2008Hello Friends,
Looks as though Huey’s pushed the re-set button for us and we’re going to have Friday again… Reasonable size congergation was assembled at Dee Why as the sun peeped over the horizon this morning. They were picking off shoulder to head high sets at both the point and along the beach. Once again, the beach is mainly offering shutdowns and the point is pretty busy.
At first light, the swell off Sydney was still dead south and a touch over 2 metres on average. The power setting is a touch under 10 seconds on average, but the peak stuff is still around 11 seconds. This is just a bit less than yesterday morning and from the look of the models, it should stay around this level through today.
Speaking of the models, they’re still showing the swell building by another metre or so tomorrow as the period increases and the average heights at sea bump up into the 3-4 metre range.
The wind call is for W-SW 15-20 kts in the morning, building to 20-30 this afternoon. And it looks as though we’ll have the same deal again tomorrow.
All and all, I’d say we’re in for a classic winter weekend. You’ll be looking at your favourite south swell options, and those probably won’t include too many beachies, but those reefs and points could be the goods…
As I mentioned yesterday, I am currently testing Nikon’s D300. That means I got out and about with it yesterday and I’ll be doing the same again today. I posted a few snaps late yesterday of smokin’ Northy and Dee Why; check ‘em out here.
Get out there and have yourself a top old day!
