Waves for Monday
Posted by: Don on August 18th, 2008Hello Friends,
When I first looked at the point shortly before 0700, I thought the swell had faded pretty severely. But then I noticed where the early morning crew were sitting and a few minutes later, a very solid set hit. I hit the shutter button on the Nikon D300 I’ve been testing for the last three days and got the picture below.
From the look of the Sydney MHL data this morning, the swell has angled ever so slightly to the S by SSE. The average size at sea has come back from yesterday’s 4 metres to around the 3 metre mark. Power setting is still hanging in there at around 11 sec with some 12+ sec component in amongst it.
Wind is out of the WSW this morning and fairly light. The Bureau says it’ll be WSW 10-15kts during the morning, before shifting to SW-SE in the afternoon.
The models were pretty much right on the money with this swell. They’re currently calling for it to fade through the day and be back to relatively modest levels for tomorrow. The rest of the week looks kinda quiet, but Huey’s brewing up another spinner in the southern ocean and by next weekend it could be on again…
Oh yeah, almost forgot, I finally got a chance to edit some video I shot from the water at Dee Why point back on the 1st. You’ll find it top of the list on the realsurf.tv home page here.
Go well with your day and get a few waves if you can!
