Hi all,

Just climbed up for a little look-see at the ocean on dusk and can report that there seems to be slightly more activity than this morning. However the cold and gloomy skies do not make for an attractive picture. Things are not helped by the chop-inducing 10-15kts of ENE wind whistling in from the sea. The swell is still out of the SE at about a metre and the period is hanging in there at 10 seconds. But there is also some very long period stuff in the mix. I don’t think it can be having much effect though, as I saw no sign of large sets while I waited to get a picture of the dedicated types messing about in the cold, dark chop of Dee Why point.

BTW, for those of you interested in such things, I had great fun shooting a few snaps in the city yesterday with Nikon’s new full frame DSLR, the D700. The quality of the images is pretty impressive. If you want to check out my shots, jump over to the little gallery I made of yesterday’s efforts. And no, there aren’t any surf pictures – just the usual streetscapes and abstracts I like making.

Waiting…

Hello Friends,

Your correspondent is mildly bemused. Dee Why seems to be utterly flat, and yet the MHL buoy is showing that the 0.5m SSE swell has an average period of 12 seconds. Given those numbers, there should be at least the occasional waist high set getting in to stretches like Dee Why. I mention this simply because I didn’t see anything in that range when I took my first picture of the day. That said, I think it’s a safe bet that if you can’t get to the beach today, you won’t be missing much.

Today’s marine forecast is calling for light NW winds in the morning, building up a bit into the 15-20kt range this afternoon. It’ll stay mostly cloudy apparently but get to 20. From tomorrow it gets cold again as a gusty change kicks up. This should be the forerunner of some windswell over the weekend, but we shall see. I’ll be keen to see the Goat’s take.

Have yourself a top old day!

Next season’s parking stickers are starting to appear, so the swap is on again, but I DON’T NEED ANY MORE WARRINGAH STICKERS. Works like this – if you have a spare you want to swap, drop an email to stickerswap@hotmail.com with what you want/have in the subject line, i.e. “Have Pittwater, Want Manly”. If you want to buy a sticker, don’t contact me. Contact the relevant council, or post something in the Realsurf forum. Oh,…and there’s barely any surf today either

Overcast and cold on the Central Coast this Thursday morning.  The swell is smooth and small at 1 – 2 feet from the southeast.  There is a light northwest breeze that will be here all day.  Low tide 0445 and high tide around 1105.  Local barometer 1014 hpa, 92% humidity, 4 degrees C.  Have a good one!
