Hello Friends,
Just went through the memory card from this morning’s shooting efforts. Once again I ended up shooting at Dee Why because it was the first place I saw photogenic waves. There was still some size around this morning, but despite the 10 sec average period, it seemed just a little slow. Saw quite a few people at Collaroy, but not much in the way of quality. There were some little waves at Brownwater and inside whiterock, but they seemed kinda fat and weak. So, off to Dee Why…
The point was well populated of course. Sunny Sunday, swell and all that. Most people seemed to be sitting in the water watching though. Set waves had plenty of size but most of them sectioned just inside from first rock. As usual there were the nice sections to be had, but for the most part I don’t think the quality was all that impressive. The beachy was equally intermittent. Sets would arrive, but just not do much. People struggled to get into them, then got caught behind more or less immediately.
Overall I’d give the bits of Sunday morning I saw about a 6 or 7 out of 10. Hope yours was at the high end of the range!
Sunday, sunny & pumping
Posted on August 24th, 2008 in Big Picture, Dee Why.Hello Friends,
What a top old morning. I slept in as usual, but thousands didn’t and by the time I pointed the lens at Dee Why from me old crow’s nest, there was goodly crew well and truly on it. Swell seemed to fade yesterday afternoon late, but it sure hasn’t gone away. Pretty consistent too. Sets looked to be into the 1.5x to 2x overhead range and the wind was not a factor.
Turning to the MHL buoy data, we have 3 metres of SSE swell at about 10 sec apart. This is maybe half the size of yesterday’s peak, but the slight east in it is making the point much more surfable. Yesterday there was plenty of size, but the quality wasn’t too fabulous.
As I write this a little after 0900, the wind isn’t much of a factor. But the Bureau says it will pick up into the afternoon and swing from the present SW to a less useful, S-SE and be in the 15-20 kt range. So, I’d make for the beach now, rather than later.
I’ll try to get out and about with the camera, so go well – and stay in touch!
The problem with sunday’s is…
Posted on August 24th, 2008 in Surf Reports.when we finally get some waves magically the crowds appear.Yesterday it was flat and today boom mature nature has turnd it on.Actually wave height is only 2-3 foot and nothing to get to excited about.Due to the low tide the only places to surf were the points, thus the crowds .Oh well who care we have waves..
