RealSurf’s Shari standing for Council
Posted on August 25th, 2008 in News Stories, Surf politics, Top stories.Yes folks, it’s true – our very own Shari Hooper is running for election to Warringah Council on September 13.
Shari is the We Love Warringah group’s A ward candidate and for a pure surf agenda, I reckon she can’t be beat!
Here’s the official press release from We Love Warringah:
It’s a big step for Shari who is normally a “behind the scenes” gal, but she believes it is crucial that the interests of surfers be represented in this election and on Warringah Council.
Shari wants a Council that is “positive, sustainable, responsive, constructive”.
“I think we have a real chance here to make this Council the ideal that others can look to. I’d like people to see there’s a way to go into the future with all the modern facilities without punishing the environment. Beauty, sustainability, vibrancy, functionality – they can surely go hand in hand.”
Shari wants to see sand nourishment of our most threatened beach at Collaroy- Narrabeen and is determined that a sea wall or rock dumping is not put back on the agenda; she wants limits on the unbridled expansion of private and commercial premises on our beaches; she wants continued access to waves for surfers and clean water.
She is a member of the Northern Beaches business women’s network www.inspiringwomen.org.au – ‘where vision meets success.’ And she’s also a long standing member of Surfrider Foundation.
This election will also be the first for a popularly elected Mayor. Shari urges all surfers to consider for Paul Jaffe from We Love Warringah for the job.
The We Love Warringah team is a true resident’s group – no former councillors, no members of political parties and no property developers.

More waves
Posted on August 25th, 2008 in Big Picture, Dee Why.- 0730 and the point seems to be operating smoothly again.
- No one chasing these at 0730.
Hello Friends,
Swell is chugging along again this morning. It’s gone a touch more east and is now out of the SE at around 2.5 metres at 10 seconds apart. Interestingly, this seems to be the case up and down the NSW coast. Winds are set to stay light through the day, starting out from the S-SW and gradually going around to the junky SE-NE setting.
At 0730 Dee Why point was not overly busy considering the quite attractive sets rolling through the joint. And I didn’t see anyone in the beachy at the south end. It was pretty busy out there yesterday, but this morning seems to be quite a different matter. With the extra touch of east to the swell, I’d expect there to be plenty of options around the place today.
If you had to pick a day to get wet in the coming week, I reckon this is it. The models show us going into a small to flat period from about Wednesday on. What’s more we’re set to have kind of ordinary weather (showers and such) from about that point as well.
So get out there if you can, and go well with your endeavours in the new week!
Central Coast arvo
Posted on August 25th, 2008 in At large, Central Coast.- Noonish and two folks out messing around with these.
- 1330: sadly, the wind was chewing up the okay size SE swell.
Wandered up to the CC to look for waves and ended up at Terrigal Haven where there were only 3-4 of us in the water. Sadly the wind had junked it up quite a bit. Water was cold too. Got a couple fun ones though.
chunky ESE swell – nice suprise
Posted on August 25th, 2008 in South Coast.A bit more solid than I expected this morning. 4-6ft and some big sets making sure you get your timing &/or duckdiving exercise in. Where’s Simmo when you need a gauge. Sunny, fairly warm and a nice SW breeze early this morn – but its gone ENE this arvo so that brings into a play a few different options. Worth a paddle if you’ve got arms (& time).
Rosco.

Weekend warriors weren’t put off by the somewhat junky conditions mid-morning at No Mans and Long Reef on Sunday 29 August. Sets were into the shoulder high range and there were...
Saturday morning saw a couple metres of south swell with a period of about 10 seconds lighting up beaches around Sydney. South Narrabeen was looking tasty early with offshore conditions...
What a great weekend! So what if Huey didn’t deliver as expected – the sun shone, the wind blew offshore and there were waves! I burnt a bit of petrol cruising round...
