Good day for voting
Posted on September 13th, 2008 in Big Picture, Dee Why.Hello Friends,
Well, as we’ve been anticipating for some days now, Saturday starts with comparatively mild temps as the NW wind brings us some warmth from outback. Should be a good day for voting, particularly early before the temps get up to 28 as those winds pick up.
Surf situation is that there pretty much is no surf situation. We have about a metre of ESE, 7 sec period windswell. If you are truly desperate – and you’ll need to be – you might just find something in the waist high range at a place like Curl Curl. But I’d be taking the fish or the mal.
The marine forecast is calling for NW winds of 15-20 kts, which will gradually move around to the NE this afternoon.
Sunday’s outlook is for N-NW 25-33 kts tomorrow and I really can’t see a great deal of reason to b hopeful about our surf prospects for the coming week. It looks to me as though we’ll be stuck with small to marginal conditions for the next few days at the least. In fact, right now there really isn’t much of anything on the charts to give east coasters joy.
If you’re voting in Warringah, be sure to have a scan down the candidate responses Surfrider Foundation collected this week. RealSurf’s Shari and Barry are running for We Love Warringah with Paul Jaffe (a keen surfer and Longy local). Click here to check ‘em out.

Yawn. Nothing’s changed since this morning except it’s gotten warmer…
Posted on September 13th, 2008 in Surf Reports.Nup. Nothing doin at DY today. Point flat, couple of knee high to maybe waist high sets up the beach. Feeling like summer’s on the way. BOM says 20-30 knot nor’easter coming in the afternoon, maybe a thunderstorm. Could be an opportunity for a kitesurf if it actually happens, but they’ve got pretty poor record for wind prediction accuracy for the past few years…
Here’s an interesting couple of photos I took last week from a camera attached to my kite.

Posted on September 13th, 2008 in Surf Reports.on friday at 3 pm: barely one-foot at our rivermouth point, but there were long, steady, mounting lines – the ocean surface was otherwise agitated, beneath a swirling, low, partial ceiling with hot, clear skies above – expect something surfable at our lost village point, closer to the open ocean – strong marine wind warning in effect – winds west to 25 knots – please stay tuned ….

Posted on September 13th, 2008 in Surf Reports.I’m not going to post my morning photo over Don’s DY swan, since it doesn’t tell you anything new or interesting. Next season’s parking stickers are starting to appear, so the swap is on again, and URGENTLY NEEDS MANLY & PITTWATER STICKERS. Works like this – if you have a spare you want to swap, drop an email to stickerswap@hotmail.com with what you want/have in the subject line, i.e. “Have Pittwater, Want Manly”. If you want to buy a sticker, don’t contact me. Contact the relevant council, or post something in the Realsurf forum
The Early-Riser Call for Saturday
Posted on September 13th, 2008 in Surf Reports. This info was compiled last night, so your mileage may vary…
Looks as though we’re set for a warm Saturday. Wind is due to be 10-15 kts from the NW this morning, but to build up into the 20-25 kt range by this afternoon. We’re going to a high of 28(!) sayeth the Bureau, and we might even get a thunderstorm in the afternoon. This little taste of summer temps looks set to be matched with an equally summer taste of little swell. Things went pear-shaped yesterday at around lunchtime when Huey abruptly switched the power off. By the time we were all pushing back from the dinner table, the swell was bumping along from the SE at only about a metre out at sea. Worse, the juice setting was an anemic 7 seconds. If you find a wave today, I tips my lid to ya! I reckon it’ll be just about flat but for the occasional laggard set wave turning up from the SE.
I should have an update at around 0715 just ahead of my weekly radio gig on 702 ABC around 0725.
