WEEKLY REPORTS for 2008
Report No: 36-08
Period: Monday 8th to Sunday 14th September 08
Another beautiful week in Samoa, mostly dry with only one or two showers in the middle of the night with plenty of bright sunny days. Also promising is the fact that the SE trades seem to be easing off, and we are all keeping our fingers crossed they will come to an end for the season.
Over the last two weeks we’ve had some of the prize winners from the great Rip Curl ‘Search to Samoa’ competition run Australia wide over last summer that Sa’Moana Resort sponsored.
Monday. High tide 2:27pm With early SE winds, & the high tide in the afternoon, the crew hung back and surfed down at Village Lefts, which was average Samoan quality but still great fun.
Tuesday. High tide 3:12pm More east in the wind today meant Village Lefts was quite clean and lining up some very wackable sections in another fun little afternoon session.
Wednesday. High tide 3:49pm A new SW swell meant an arvo boat trip to Pebbles where waves were basically throwing square into the strong offshore breeze. Nearly everyone managed to get shacked in the overhead barrels.
Thursday. High tide 3:53am and 4:23pm An early out the front at Resorts on the dropping tide saw some juicy head high waves with a few sections smashed before a last minute dash over the reef as the tide got too low.
Friday. High tide 4:30am and 4:56pm A pre dawn boat trip to Pebbles was a great call with clean over head barrels on offer for the early risers. The goofy footers were loving it, whilst the natural footers got to practice their pig dogging on the steep hollow faces. Once again they surfed until the tide got really low and dry reef on the inside had them heading back to the boat to lick their wounds and relive the memory of our barrels.
Saturday. High tide 5:07am and 5:30pm Pebbles was the focus in the pre dawn & once again they scored for their efforts with overhead barreling conditions on offer. After about 45 minutes a boat load of pro surfers turned up and crowded the lineup for a while but after being put to shame by our crew of mere mortals they decided to hot foot it out of Samoa on the morning flight leaving it to it the crew. So once again they had nice barreling conditions to themselves
Sunday. High tide 5:45am and 6:05pm An early boat trip to Y-Tops was a great way to finish the week. A light offshore breeze made for clean and glassy conditions and with a shoulder to head high SE swell pushing in a fun session was had in the beautiful surroundings down at Y-Tops.
