Where’s Huey?
Posted on September 20th, 2008 in Big Picture, Dee Why.Hello Friends,
One thing I can state with a modicum of certainty is that Dee Why is just about zippo. One chap was puttering about just off the beach on his stand up paddleboard, whilst a couple others were up the beach on mals.
I reckon you just might find a little tiny something at spots that were showing yesterday around this time because the settings are just about the same again, ie 8 second period east windswell of about a metre. You might occasionally spot a larger set though as the Manly MHL buoy is also showing some 12 second stuff.
We’re in for a warm day (the call is for 30-32 across the Sydney region) and along the coast, the wind is set to pick up from N-NW through the morning and be pushing along at 20-30 kts this afternoon. Bad as that is for the little windswell struggling to get ashore, it will be worse when a west change of similar strength arrives late today.
All the indicators point to tomorrow being flat. And, it doesn’t look as though we’ll have any relief next week either. All the models are calling for short period, small to flat conditions over the next 5 days for pretty much the entire east coast. Blergh.
Oh well, it is spring…
Have yourself a top old day!
Zippo at DY, but maybe something at E or NE facing beaches
Posted on September 20th, 2008 in Dee Why.Had a fun surf on the big board up by NoMans last night just on dark in about waist to chest high conditions but that’s pretty much history now. It’s gonna be rippa of a day today (minus the surf) and probably on average, better than most day’s we’re likely to see in the middle of summer as far as the weather goes, so make plans to get out and amongst it. Looking at the charts there are some interesting things happening but I don’t see much at the beach. Straight E swell that’s not getting into DY at all but there COULD be some potential for those E and NE facing beaches as the charts show an 8-14 sec interval. Set waves at Narra could be OK, but at the moment everyone there is sitting about 50m from the beach. Windy later with nor’westers to come screaming in up to 30 knots. Will feel like summer bushfire conditions by mid-afternoon…

C C We have a little swell going here
Posted on September 20th, 2008 in Central Coast, Surf Reports.Fine, dry and warm on the Central Coast this Saturday morning. The swell is smooth and small at 1 – 2 feet from the east northeast. There is no breeze at the moment but set to go northwest later. Low tide 0455 and high tide around 1130. Local barometer 1004 hpa, 95% humidity, 14 degrees C. Have a great weekend!
Saturday morning early call
Posted on September 20th, 2008 in Big Picture.Hello Friends,
Looks as though early-risers will not be particularly rewarded this Saturday morning. We’re in for a hot, windy day says the Bureau, but sadly those winds will be coming from the NW and therefore not be doing much of anything to improve the already marginal surf conditions. There were a few little waves around the place yesterday at spots that take NE windswell. However, as of late last night, the MHL trace was showing a dropping period (average around the 7 second mark) as the primary direction of the windswell went from ESE Friday morning to the NE.
Well-exposed stretches could see the odd set into the waist high range, particularly early. But as the tide fills in and the wind accelerates later this morning, I’d expect the prospects to dwindle away.
I’ll be along at around 0730 with an update just ahead of my usual weekly surf report on ABC 702 AM radio with Simon Marnie.
