Another magnificent morning in Sydney. Mild and clear with a light breeze stirring through the dune grasses. The windswell has stayed about the same size as yesterday (a metre or so). It’s still mainly out of the east and the average period has increased ever so slightly to about 7 seconds. But, the improvement in the power setting isn’t enough to give us surf in the generally accepted meaning of the word.
The Bureau says this morning’s light NW breeze will swing around to the S-SW briefly before going around to the N-NE and getting up to 15-20kts by this afternoon.
Tomorrow morning the wind will be back around to the NW at 20-25 kts ahead of a similar strength south change. The relatively weak and varying wind directions will insure that no local windswell will get established.
When will it improve? Good question. The little south pulse anticipated for Mon-Tue is still on the cards, but the forecast power setting keeps slipping and is currently anticipated to be in the 7-9 sec range. Swell direction should still be pretty straight south at around the 2 metre mark. Wind should be from the NW-NE, so I’m hoping we’ll get at least a little something.
But for today and tomorrow… rack up the brownie points me hearties! We’ll need them again one day.

Posted on September 27th, 2008 in Surf Reports.on friday at 530 pm: alas, almost lake-like at our rivermouth point, under very low tide, with only hosts of white gulls, forlornly awaiting the surf, across cobbled reefs laid bare – at the esteemed Chula bistro, i was told that the same doleful conditions were likely to prevail at the lost village beach, up the straits and much closer to open ocean, so i wll refrain from that extra journey for a day or two – somewhat agitated, fluctuating weather: marine winds at the mouth of the straits are southeast, only to a meagre 15 knots and subsiding – please stay tuned …..
