Hailing from Queensland’s Stradbroke Island, Lincoln Taylor has once again proved he can mix it with the best in Australia and come out on top. Last year Taylor won the Oakley Pro Junior in his own backyard, many saying it was local knowledge that helped him win. He has proved them wrong by beating a world class field at Sydney’s Manly Beach, far from his much loved sub-tropical point breaks.
In tricky 1 to 3 ft beach breaks, Taylor was able to impress the judges, (which included current world champ Mick Fanning) and win the event over his more well known rivals Julian Wilson and Owen Wright. For his efforts Taylor pockets $10 000 and the bragging rights, not that this shy guy from ‘the island’ will be doing much talking himself up.
Taylor, 20, is currently ranked second on the Australian Junior Series. “I don’t have a sponsor at the moment so this is an awesome win for me,” he said. “I’d like to have a crack at the World Qualifying Series next year and I’ll use this prize money to help with my travel expenses.”
