Sunny, little waves too
Posted on October 7th, 2008 in Big Picture, Dee Why.Went for a splash at far south Narrabeen. Lotsa little shutdowns, but the water was clear and it was such a beautiful morning… here’s a snap I took with the new Olympus 1050 SW…
Hello Friends,
Typical. Long weekend ends and we have a bright sunny morning (bit chilly) and little waves coming in. The swell basically started arriving around daybreak in Sydney. It’s out of the south and getting close to 3 metres on average. The power setting’s only around 8 seconds though, so the bigger sets are maybe shoulder high at Dee Why.
Wind is out of the WSW at around 10-15 kts as I write this. The Bureau says it will ease off soon and be fairly light later this morning. By afternoon we can expect 8-13 kts of SE-NE wind. So, sounds like the plan is to get out there now I’d say.
The forecast models are still showing a dip tomorrow and then another kick up on Thursday as an 8-16 hour wide long period south pulse rolls through. With luck it’ll peak during daylight hours. And the Bureau says Sydney can expect light and variable breezes in the morning before it turns around to the NE at 10-20 kts. Could be a case of North Corners are Go!
Have yourself a top old day!
BEACHLEY CLASSIC SAVED AT “D” HOUR BY CBA
Posted on October 7th, 2008 in Contests, News Stories, Site News, Top stories. The principal of the Beachley Classic 7 times ASP World Champion Layne Beachley said, ““CBA have saved the day. This has provided me with an enormous sense of relief and gratitude. In a world full of scared investors CBA have shown the courage to support our women’s event and in so doing, initiated their new policy of support and promotion of women within the banking services. I am so proud that CBA have chosen the Beachley Classic to launch their new female focussed direction.”
“I would also like to acknowledge the NSW Department of Sport and Recreation and Dairy Farmers who have come on as support partners to the event”.
The Beachley Classic, which Layne launched in 2006 is an ASP Women’s World Tour surfing event featuring the Top 17 ranked women surfers in the world, plus one Wildcard entrant taken from the Oakley Trials event. Countries competing include Australia, USA, Peru, South Africa and Brazil.
In 2008, with the Local business banking Commonwealth Bank of Australia’s financial assistance, the Beachley Classic is looking forward to emulating and further building on the success of the past two tournaments.
Executive General Manager Local Business Banking Mr Symon Brewis-Weston said “I recently attended Layne’s Aim For the Stars Foundation luncheon and was incredibly impressed with her commitment to supporting women in all their endeavours. What struck me particularly was the synergy between our new initiative in support of women within our Local Business Services and Layne’s determination to help women succeed. So we are thrilled to be able to sponsor the Beachley Classic as a symbol of support for women across the nation”.
The Beachley Classic is inadvertently positioned as one of the most crucial events of the calendar with 20% bonus points on offer.
Staged in conjunction with Commonwealth Bank, Events New South Wales, Arrive Alive and Beachley and with the support of Oakley, Dairy Farmers and the Manly Council, the Beachley Classic begins its waiting period on October 9, 2008 and runs through October 14th, 2008.
At Last!
Posted on October 7th, 2008 in Bondi, Bronte, Tama.Worth a look today folks as a southerly swell has arrived. Bondi got a good shoulder high in the south corner and other offerings along the beach. Tama outcrop working as usual, Bronte slightly missing it. Maccas seems to be working on getting it’s banks back for summer. Schoolies everywhere. Remember schoolies, respect the old guys!
White foamy stuff on beach- think it’s called waves!!!
Posted on October 7th, 2008 in Curl Curl, Surf Reports.Looks like we have waves for the first time in what feels like years. If we didn’t win the footy there would definately have been riots. 3 feet at Curly but cross shore tending onshore as the day wears on. Should be some 2-3 footers tomorrow and Thursday looks like it may have some crackers with a longer period pulse but variable winds. Then it will go flat again. I’m off to Melbourne thursday to check out the consistent and cold (13 degs) swell at bells. Enjoy.
Narrabeen Rpt
Posted on October 7th, 2008 in Surf Reports.Looks like surf to me. Looks around headhigh. Looks offshore.
Looks clean, too
chilly and small
Posted on October 7th, 2008 in South Coast.Similar to y’day except a few degrees cooler and a few less knots of breeze. Waves in the 1ft or less range, good condx with a cool SW breeze on it. You’ll need a mini surfer to be getting much action. Rosco.

Posted on October 7th, 2008 in Dee Why, North Narrabeen. Some evidence of a new S swell making it’s way into Sydney with some small (but yet unsurfable) waves on the Point at 0700. A couple of larger ones breaking up by DY Centre to Poles. Maybe waist to chest high on sets. Light westerly wind keeping it clean but it’s still pretty marginal. Charts show 8-9seconds and 2-4m of S swell and continuing to build. Models suggest it’ll peak this morning sometime between 10 and 2 but not get a lot bigger that it is now. At least it’s bigger than the past few days…Just had a look a the Narra Cam and it’s pretty small there. S facing beaches definitely the best bets…

Fine, cool and dry on the Central Coast this Tuesday morning. The swell is smooth and small at 1 – 2 feet + from the southeast. There is light south southwest breeze set to go east southeast later. Low tide 0635 and high tide around 1320. Local barometer 1009 hpa, 71% humidity, 9 degrees C. Have a good one!
