CHLOE BYRON MEMORIAL CONTEST AT BONDI – THIS SUNDAY

Chloe Byron Memorial Day
Chloe Byron Memorial Day
Be a part of one of Australia’s most important Longboard events, the Chloe Byron Memorial Contest, run by the Bondi Longboard Club – A contest to remember Chloe Byron, the daughter of one of the club’s founding members, Dave Byron.
Chloe was lost alongside so many others in the 2002 Bali Bombings, and every year longboarders from all over the country converge on Sydney’s Iconic Bondi Beach to compete in her honour.
It’s a contest not about kudos, not about prizes, but all about the Ohana (family and community) spirit.
The day will kick off early, with registrations starting from 7am, followed by the now-famous auction to raise money for the Homicide Victims Support Group.
Items up for grabs include a one-off McTavish Fireball surfboard, an original Endless Summer poster donated by California’s Surfing Heritage Foundation and surf photography books signed by photographers Jeff Devine, Tom Servais and Art Brewer.
Derek O’Neill at Billabong has also kicked in with a bootfull of swag including signed Teahupoo Contest rashies, steamers, boardbags and too much other stuff to mention.
Last year we raised over $8000, and all the money stayed in the immediate community.
This year, with the auction and the enormous raffle, we aim to raise over $10,000.
Lunch is included in the registration fee, and the memorial paddle-out will follow during a break in the heats.
Join us on what truly is an emotional, fun, joyous celebration of the Aloha spirit.
See you Sunday.
Aloha and Mahalo
