i applaud first stoke for making an effort but the article doesn't really highlight people that are the big ticket sponsored pro's.
Also having a Rusty team manager talk about athletes being good ambassadors in and out of the water? Has he had a look at his own team?
My list:
1. Own you local area. Really own it.
2. Dominate a very photographed area. Either as a frequent vistor (Mooney at Shipsterns) or a local (Parko at Snapper)
3. Be yourself. If people don't like it then fine but don't try to be someone else.
4. Win some major comps. State titles are ok but as a junior the Pro juniors are were it is at.
5. Be always looking to get better in all surf. Team managers want well rounded surfers. Be honest, if your not well rounded then either be it or get a job.
6. Be good in and out of the water. Be an athlete. Dedication goes so far in the eyes of team managers. They are looking for those that have the work ethic so they can smash through barriers like the WQS and lower CT ranks.
7. Don't waste down time. You really need something to fall back on. A plan B. You need rest but instead of watching TV or being a wanna be rock star. Stop and think about what you could be doing productive in that time.
