Where’s Huey?
Posted on December 3rd, 2008 in Big Picture, Dee Why.Hello Friends,
The picture says it all. Huey’s gone off to make waves somewhere else. There were a couple of bods having a bit of a paddle off the beach at Dee Why, but I don’t think they were in any serious danger of being overwhelmed by a mighty comber.
The latest MHL combined trace shows that up and down the coast, the swell at sea is only about a metre at not better than 6 seconds apart. So, if you’ve had a look at your favourite spot and are feeling somewhat bleak, at least now you know it’s basically the same everywhere else.
The marine forecast for Sydney has light NW winds early, swinging around to the E/NE this afternoon ahead of a 20-25 kt south change this evening. From the look of the wave models, the change isn’t likely to push up much, but at least there’s a possibility that it’ll be bigger than what we have right now. The wind’s due to be out of the SE-NE at 10-20 kts and there’s a chance of a morning shower.
This coming weekend is currently looking to be pretty small, but that shouldn’t be a problem for the first RealSurf demo day this Saturday morning at Dee Why. The folks from GSI have 11 different brands these days and they’ll have mals, fishes and learner boards for anyone who wants to have a go. It’s all free, you can try any of the 50 or so boards and there’ll be GSI people there for any questions you might have.
And then, on Sunday, it’ll be Ocean Care Day down at Manly. Among the numerous events and activities on the day will be a paddle out for the Little Penguins (their last mainland habitat in Manly is threatened by a development). The idea is to get surfers to form a giant Little Penguin in the ocean while kids on the beach build Little Penguin sand castles. Organisers are looking for surfers to join the paddle out and they’re inviting anyone who wants to be a part of the action to visit the sign up page here.
Go well with your day!

Posted on December 3rd, 2008 in Surf Reports.on tuesday at 9 am: up to head-high, powerful but declining swell – intrepid matt made it to the lost village beach this morning (an hour’s careful drive), and reports excellent, if not dramatic conditions – around a dozen fellows in attendance, mostly on the eastern section known as firsts – matt rides an 8-footer, and stayed on the outside with one other longboarder, picking up the larger choicer waves – calmer, clearer weather, marine winds at the mouth of the straits tonight will be easterly to 20 knots ….
