Rain again, more coming too
Posted on December 12th, 2008 in Big Picture, Dee Why.As promised, a few pics for ya…
Hello Friends,
The Bureau has hoisted the gale pennant for a region from the Hunter to our southern border. In Sydney the NE wind of 10-15kts this morning, will ramp up to 20-30 kts this afternoon and during the evening it could be up into the 30-40 kt range. Rain is expected to be moderate to heavy at times says the Bureau and the high is set to be 21 along the coast.
There’s not much of anything showing at Dee Why (sorry, no picture because I didn’t want to get my camera wet), which is hardly surprising given that we only have a tiny, junky NE windswell. Better exposed spots could be a touch better, but let’s face it, conditions are marginal at best along the NSW coast.
Once that wind gets going though, there should start to be some activity in the semi-protected north corners. Water quality will of course be an issue.
On Saturday morning, the Bureau says the wind should be lighter and from the NW. At the same time, you’d have to think there’ll be something left from the big blow on Friday evening. The rain is set to have cleared and it’s going to be blazing hot by the afternoon (34!). All of that inclines me to share correspondent Mark F.’s calculation that NE facing stretches could be pretty fun. (water caveat will still apply)
I’ll be out on errands this morning, so will try to post a snap or two later from those travels in due course.
On another front, I’ve been alerted to a worthy charity fundraiser for Dr Derek Allen this weekend. Dr Derek, aka Tropdoc, you may remember was the chap who flew his helicopter from Telos to the Mentawais to help save Darren Longbottom’s life after Daz suffered a catastrophic spinal injury. Anyway, it’s a great cause, well worthy of support, so I hope a few RealSurfers will get along to the Whale Beach Restaurant on Sunday the 14th at 7pm. You can check out the Doc’s website at www.troppodoc.com.
Okay, gotta run for now, back in a bit with some more pics I hope.
