Here we go… here we go…
Posted on December 14th, 2008 in At large, Dee Why.Hey late night fans!
Just got back from a family-do and in the last gloaming, grabbed a snap of Dee Why to prove that the Bureau called it. Nice clean strong south swell pushing into the point at dark. Sorry about the pic quality, but my Nikon D70 is right at the limits of its capacity to record light! Looks to me like sets are solidly head high – up from utterly flat 4 hours ago!Batemans Bay is showing 3 metres at 9+ sec right now…
I’d say it’d be worth the effor to be up for the early tomorrow…
Latest word from the Bureau for Monday:
SW 20/30 knots at first, easing to SW/SE 13/18 knots in the afternoon and S/SE 5/10 knots in the evening.Sea: 2 to 3 metres slowly abating to 1 to 1.5 metres.Swell: S 3 to 4 metres decreasing to 2 to 3 metres in the evening.
Sounds like Monday’s the day…
Catchya again tomorrow!

Beautiful Sunday morning
Posted on December 14th, 2008 in Big Picture, Dee Why.Hello Friends,
Swell seems to have backed off as anticipated but I did see at least one little one come into the beach at Dee Why when grabbed the pic. However, I’m reasonably confident that it was an unusually good one because I didn’t see another for the rest of the time I watched. Certainly it doesn’t look a patch on yesterday afternoon (click yesterday’s pics to get an idea).
The SW wind is already blowing pretty strongly out at sea and it’s expected to keep pushing up until it’s into the 20-30kt range this afternoon. That’ll hammer the last of the NE windswell. But the good news is that Huey’s in his workshop this weekend. Sounds to me as though he’s building us a nice strong south pulse too. The Bureau reckons it could show up late this afternoon, but the models think it’ll kick into gear overnight.
Tomorrow should see the same strong SW winds in the morning, but they’re set to fade through the day and the swell could be absolutely macking. The Bureau reckons 3.5-4.5 metres! And the models say the period should be around the 10 second mark. That is some serious juice. Plus it looks like we’ll be getting nice shooting weather as well.
All good! Enjoy your Sunday and if the schedule permits, I will try to check back with a bit of an update this evening.
Early riser call for Sunday
Posted on December 14th, 2008 in Big Picture.Hello Friends,
Your webmaster will probably make a leisurely start today, so here are a few thoughts on the prospects for Sunday morning formulated on Saturday evening.
First, here’s the Bureau’s call:
Sunday: Wind: W /SW 25/33 knots.Sea: 2 to 3 metres Swell: N/NE 1 to 1.5 metres, increasing to S 2 to 3 metres.
This evening the NE windswell was probably in the 2-2.5 metre range, so if the Bureau’s right, then I’d expect mainly waist high stuff for the first visitors to the beach this morning.
The swell models aren’t showing the south swell arriving quite as early (they reckon it’ll kick into gear overnight on Sunday) as the Bureau seems to be indicating, so it’ll be interesting to see who gets it right. Good to see some solid swell in prospect though.
Weather should be rain free too, but not as hot as Saturday was.
I’ll wander in with a Sunday report later this morning… in the meantime, go well!
