It’s here
Posted on December 15th, 2008 in Big Picture, Dee Why.Hello Friends,
midday update: had a look around at about noon and can tell you that Warriewood isn’t too crowded but like everywhere else, pretty fat and full. Sets are definitely overhead though. Maybe not the greatest quality but you’re going to be looking to get out of the wind, and it’s one place where you can do that very thing.
Wandered down to Collaroy and it is a lot more crowded. Heaps of bods catching the usual weird high tide reforming stuff. Every now and then one sort of stands up, but you’d rate the quality overall at maybe 5/10. I’ll try to get out and about again this afternoon, so check back for an update…
Here’s this morning’s report…
Up late with Ross working on the forum upgrade, but had to get up early to see how the swell looked…
And how it looks is big, raw and crazy. But that hasn’t stopped a hardy crew paddling out to meet Huey’s latest offering. The bigger sets are shutting down the point, and you can pretty much forget the beach – unless you happen to like duck diving.
The latest data from the Batemans Bay buoy (the only one working in the southern two-thirds of NSW) is showing 4-7 metres of 10-12 sec period south swell.
Wind in Sydney is out of the WSW at 10-15kts as I write this at around 0730.
The Bureau’s latest call is for the swell to fade rapidly during the day from 3-4 metres now, to 2-3 metres by close of play. Tomorrow the call is for 1.5 to 2 metres and the rest of the week is looking pretty small…
I’m hoping to get out and about with a camera today, so I should be posting again later. Have yourself a good one!

Posted on December 15th, 2008 in Curl Curl, Surf Reports.Too big at Curly with 6-10 foot sets and unridable. How good was last night? It went from 1 to 5 feet in an hour- thats the fastest rising swell I’ve ever seen. At 5pm there was didley squat and by 6.30 I was sprinting down the beach like a kid at Christmas and had an awesome session. Some really solid sets smashing through by dusk last night. Maybe tomorrow when things clean up a little Curly will be on but you’d need to be quick cos this swell will fade fast. Freshie was closing out and there was a few at manly although it didn’t look good this morning- too fat or too much water movement. Enjoy.
Too big for this little puppy.
Posted on December 15th, 2008 in Bondi, Bronte, Tama.Nothing is surfable from Bondi to Bronte. 7am saw Rod Kerr being towed in at Bronte for some amazing right hand bombs but without the jet ski, near impossible. The left off Wedding Cake Island was surfable but you really need to know what you are doing. 3pm yesterday……all time!
I saved a pommy backpacker by talking him out of going for a surf at Bondi this morning. He still hadn’t taken the cellophane of his “Wahu” body board. Idiot.
I saved a pom! Maybe I’m the idiot.

Posted on December 15th, 2008 in Central Coast, Surf Reports. Some cloud cover and dry on the Central Coast this Monday morning. The swell is rough and substantial at 6 – 8 feet + from the southeast with king tide on top. There is a light to moderate south southwest breeze at the moment forecast to strengthen and go southeast. Low tide 0430 and high tide around 1100. Local barometer 1000 hpa, 49% humidity, 18 degrees C. Have a great week.

Big ones are closing out the entire beach from Dee Why Headland to Longy. They are rideable if you are crazy enough and persistent enough to get out there. All the Bombies at Longy are going off–even saw a few feathering at German Bank way out the back. Two guys out at the Point at 0900 trying to avoid mahem but they’re doing a lot of duck diving. Longy a total write off. Manly looks pretty good and I suspect The Kick at Collaroy would be the go this morning. Wind is a stiff WSW and will go S later on. Swell is still building and probably keep doing so til after midday. Cheers, Rob
Hot Hot Hot
Posted on December 15th, 2008 in Sunshine Coast, Surf Reports.Up on the Sunny Coast today the only thing worth heading to the beach for is a swim to escape the heat.Wave height is only tiny.Ann Street had about 15 guys waiting for knee high sets to roll in…Have a good day what ever you do..
Mona Vale
Posted on December 15th, 2008 in Mona Vale.Well… if you like triple overhead bumpy wind blown closeouts, then Mona is the place to be for you!! Otherwise it’s all about getting to somewhere that would either be protected from all the swell, or holding it.

Posted on December 15th, 2008 in Big Picture.Hello Friends
Having to stay up late in an effort to get RealSurf’s forums updated. So, I’ve had time to watch the Batemans Bay buoy traces heading in the right direction. It’s around half twelve as I write this, and the latest data shows that it’s dead south down there, with average size pushing into the 3.5 metre range, but with peaks hitting close to 6 metres. Meanwhile, the average period has gone from around 7 seconds at lunch time to a touch over 10 seconds now. Peak periods are out at the 12 sec mark. Three metres of 12 sec period swell is seriously big – and, as last night’s late picture showed, it started filling into our region at dusk, so first light should see some macking sets at exposed locations.
Here’s the Bureau’s call:
Monday: Wind: SW 20/30 knots at first, easing to SW/SE 13/18 knots in the afternoon and S/SE 5/10 knots in the evening.Sea: 2 to 3 metres slowly abating to 1 to 1.5 metres.Swell: S 3 to 4 metres decreasing to 2 to 3 metres in the evening.
Tuesday Outlook: Wind: NW to 10 kts before N/NE 10/20 knots develops in the afternoon
Not sure how much later I’ll be up, so can’t say just when you’ll next hear from me… but it’ll be soon!
