Dropped, but not flat

Late arvo update:

Not a patch on Butts' pics, but the camera costs 1/10th as much!

Not a patch on Butts

Our swell seems to have faded away to next to nothing. At 1000 there were still a few head high sets at the bombies up at Longy, but when I went by Curly around 3pm it was struggling to make waist high.

Not a Butts pic, but you still get the idea.

Tomorrow the Bureau says we’ll have 1-1.5 metres of south swell. Since the period’ll only be around the 7-8 sec mark, that’ll mean just about flat most places. Back to summery conditions I guess. Oh well.

…this morning’s call posted a little after 0600:

Hello Friends,

Half the size of yesterday but nicer looking.

Half the size of yesterday but nicer looking.

Looks like our swell has faded overnight in a big way. But that doesn’t mean it’s gone flat. There are still a few head high sets at Dee Why beach, and the crew at the point is seeing the odd one into a similar range. But swell seems to be closer together, and the wait between sets getting longer.

I reckon it’s a case of go now, because from the look of the data coming off the Batemans Bay and Eden buoys, it’s going to match the Bureau’s prediction exactly – namely dropping through the day. Wind should be light and variable this morning and then settle around to the NE at 15-20 kts this arvo.

I’m off for a closer look… will try to report again later…

not too bad … at all

Some prettty good waves around early. 3-5ft waves in places with at least one set of big sneakers that vaporised the crew. Looks like its on the decline. NE starting to puff, but still plenty of fun ones around. Water is warm – must be close to 20C, suns out, Christmas crowd not arrived yet. Rosco.

Is anyone at work today?

There were perfect rifles at Bronte reef this morning enjoyed by a large crew. Not as good now, that’s why I can tell you. Still worth a paddle everywhere. Good waves and banks all along Bondi. Tama left is not great but good enough and not crowded. I’ve lived around here for 40 years and have never seen waves break so far out the back of Maccas. It’s a shut down but with a bit of sand movement I think this will be a great summer for Maccas.

Smaller

Posted on December 16th, 2008 in Dee Why.

Conditions a wee bit smaller than y’day. Point barely breaking but there are still some punchy ones up Longy way and I suspect Curly will be firing.

Out front this morning couldn’t resist shooting this sequence of a micro-grom and his dad getting some serious stoke at Kiddie Korner…

Good size- shame about the banks

Posted on December 16th, 2008 in Curl Curl, Surf Reports.

Perfect size at 3-5 feet and offshore winds this morning but it was dead straight with just a handful of shoulders on offer but the water is warm and the sun is shining.  Penguins were having fun.  Maybe later or somewhere else but I had a look at Freshie and manly and they looked ordinary as well.  Enjoy.

Mona Vale

The conditions are much nicer today than yesterday, although this morning was still closing out, i reckon throughout the day it’ll get a bit better as it’s gonna keep dropping off. And we all know that MV can only handel small waves.

Fine, cool and dry on the Central Coast this Tuesday morning.  The swell is semi-smooth and smaller at 3 – 4 feet + from the southeast.  There is a light to moderate southwest breeze at the moment forecast to go northeast.  Low tide 0520 and high tide around 1150.  Local barometer 1007 hpa, 90% humidity, 12 degrees C.  Have a good one.
