Back to summer
Posted on December 17th, 2008 in Big Picture, Dee Why.Hello Friends,
Nice morning out there. Shame about the waves though. Outlook is for a sunny start to the day, but with cloud gradually increasing in the afternoon. Should hit a high of around 26 on the coast. Wind was faint at 0700, so the little remnants of yesterday were pretty glassy for the crew in amongst them. But, as a glance at Butts’ pics from yesterday reveals, the contrast is pretty stark.
The outlook is for the swell to fade even more during the day and to basically be flat, or very nearly so, in Sydney for the next couple days. But, there is a little bright spot in the Bureau’s marine forecast this morning… ” A low is expected to deepen over the southern Tasman Sea on Friday. ”
The forecast models are all singing much the same tune on this one, namely that we should see a little burst of south swell starting on Friday night and lasting through close of play on Saturday. Wind is expected to be southerly as well, so the biggest spots (looks like head high plus at this stage), will also be wind affected.
Beyond that, it currently looks as though we’ll drop back to small to flat conditions.
Keep on smilin’ and go well with your various plans!

WEEKLY REPORTS for 2008
Report No: 50-08
Period: Monday 8th till Sunday 14th December
Monday. High tide 3.11pm. After a sleep in & a big lunch 2 guests went for a paddle out at Resorts in glassy clean conditions with lefts & rights. 1 or 2 turns a wave & racy walls. They and the guides surfed it from 1 till 4 & made the most of the shoulder high conditions.
Tuesday. High tide 3.39am & 4pm. With not much on the south side they tried the north shore super early as there was a heap of north swell. After checking everywhere the wind was killing it & they got skunked surf wise ended up jumping into a waterfall instead of surfing.
Wednesday. High tide 4.32am & 4.50pm. After yesterday they didn’t bother trying to chase the swell & ended up having an R&R day.
Thursday. High tide 5.26am & 5.44pm. Again no south swell so no surfing today.
Friday. High Tide 6.19am & 6.39pm. Finally a south swell had kicked in over night so they boated straight out to Pebbles which was super glassy & shoulder high. The outside section was the go with long walls where you could get 3 or 4 turns on. It was quite consistent, so the 3 of them surfed for 3 hours and it stayed clean all day so they got a 2 hour bash out the front at Resorts when they got back. The shoulder high peaks which had good shape, it was unreal to finally get a good days surfing in and the guests were stoked.
Saturday. High tide 7.14am & 7.34pm. Early boat trip again but with no luck. They checked Special K, Pebbles, Wakas & Coconuts, which with the small swell were lucky to be knee high. More R&R.
Sunday. High tide 8:09am. With absolutely no swell on the South side of the island and being church day, and with no wind and no swell, they decided to do an early fishing trip. The conditions on the water for fishing were magic and after a fun day ended up boating a couple of little reef sharks and a nice dog tooth tuna.

Using Internet Explorer? Read this!
Posted on December 17th, 2008 in Big Picture, News Stories, Top stories.UPDATE: Microsoft has released patches for all versions of IE, click here.
Hi all,
If you’re using Microsoft’s Internet Explorer, you should probably switch to another browser for the time being as a serious security flaw has been uncovered in the last day or so.
If you’ve never tried Firefox, Safari, Opera Google Chrome or other Internet Explorer alternatives, now might be a good time. Microsoft’s flagship browser, the default choice on countless Windows machines, currently has a serious security flaw that affects all versions of the browser running on any version of Windows. The vulnerability allows hackers to gain access to any sensitive data on your PC.
Even more worrying, the exploit is already in the wild and no there’s no fix in sight, leading a number of security researchers to suggested that, in the interest of avoiding malicious software, users switch to another browser.
Users of Microsoft‘s Internet Explorer have been warned of a flaw that could let hackers gain access to their computers and steal personal data, and told them to swap to a rival browser.
The flaw was spotted last week when hackers started attacking users of IE 7. The flaw, however, has also been found in earlier versions of Microsoft’s browser, IE 5 and IE 6.
Because IE is used by seven out of every ten computers in the world, the flaw is potentially very serious. So far, however, it only seems to have been used to steal computer game code from rival gamers.
Microsoft is trying to put together a patch, but in the meantime computer users have been advised to update their security settings or switch to unaffected browsers such as Firefox or Opera.
Australia’s Computer Emergency Response Team (AusCERT) has recommended organisations “consider using a web browser other than Internet Explorer until a patch becomes available” — an option that many large firms cannot seriously consider.
The zero-day flaw first reported last Thursday, which Microsoft later admitted affected all versions of Internet Explorer has prompted AusCERT to advise Australian organisations to “consider” using an alternative browser, which could include Opera, Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome or Safari.
Alternative browsers that can be downloaded for free
