TG’s forecast
Posted on January 16th, 2009 in Surf Reports.Surf forecast issued Friday 16 January 2009: Seven day outlook for Sydney: The Eden buoy ticked up around lunchtime Friday 3-5 metres so some South swell is on the way for tomorrow. Surf should be around 2 metres at places that like dead South swell. However, it will also be accompanied by some fresh South wind making quality a little ordinary, and will be short lived. Sunday will still be ridable size in the 1-2 metre range dead South and the wind is expected to swing Se to Ne thru the day. Back to work Monday is looking better 1-2 metres SE turning NE, and NE wind aarrggghh.
Saturday: about 2 metres dead South.
Sunday: 1-2 range dead South.
Monday: 1-2 South East turning North East.
Tuesday, Wednesday: about 1 metre North East
Thursday: about 1 metre North East increasing thru the day to around 2 metres.
Friday: 1-2 metre range North East.
Water temp is pleasant – my guess around 23-24 (the Sydney buoy is temporarily not working).

Dee Why: Smaller than Manly…
Posted on January 16th, 2009 in Dee Why.Manly might be small, but Dee Why is smaller.
Had a decent surf at Narra just before the southerly hit yesterday. Back to near flat again today.
Manly
Posted on January 16th, 2009 in Manly.Very small down at manly today. Seems strange after a couple of weeks of that easterly swell to look out and see it drop off so much over night. Still there are a few waves happening that people are making the best of.
cool small new SE swell
Posted on January 16th, 2009 in South Coast. The ENE windswell has almost disappeared, replaced by waves in the 2-3ft range out of the SE. Great condx early – lite SW and cool. Water temp is around the 20C mark – so very pleasant for a paddle. Rosco.

Posted on January 16th, 2009 in Mona Vale.It looks far from good out Mona this morning, but im sure the few guys out there would be enjoying the peace and quiet from the regular crowds of the last few weeks!
Small, weak and beautiful.
Posted on January 16th, 2009 in Bondi, Bronte, Tama.Nothing good to report about the surf but still worth a trip for a swim. Great day at the beach. Spent the day up the northern beaches yesterday. Geez you guys have it good up there. More selection than a trip to the fish markets!
Windy one coming up
Posted on January 16th, 2009 in At large, California.Hello Friends,
Bureau’s calling for a windy one today, but a 0645 there’s only a light NW breeze showing at Sydney’s coastal automatic weather stations. It’s due to swing SW and then eventually around to the SE by this afternoon. Once it’s coming from the SE, the Bureau says speeds could be into the 20-30 kt range. That should bump the swell up a touch, but my reading is that it won’t be much today. High tide’s around midday, so it might be a plan to get to the beach early if you want a shot at much of anything.
Average height of the swell at sea all up and down the NSW coast is in the metre range. Average periods are around 7 seconds. Pretty marginal conditions sadly. Middle part of the day is supposed to be comparatively cloud free and a warm 27 or so along the beaches. As that change fills in though, the skies are set to cloud up again.
A picture showed up in the papers here today that I thought some of you might find amusing (assuming you haven’t already seen it!).
Over in our man Bruce’s neck of the woods (NZ of course), an Orca was photographed very close to someone surfing at Stent Road by an NZPA photographer.
According to the NZ Herald, the NZ Orcas are the only sub-species of the dolphin relative that includes a lot of sting rays in its diet. Who woulda thunk. Nice brown wetsuit there matey!
Surf news from California continues grim. However this weekend and into next week are looking more and more impressive. Really getting hopeful that I’ll actually get a taste of a decent WNW swell before I return to the warmth and summer time slop of dear old Sydney in a week’s time.
Go well with your day!

Fine, dry and mild on the Central Coast this Friday morning. The swell is small and semi-smooth at 1 – 2 feet from the east southeast. There is a light southwest breeze forecast to go southeast later. Low tide 0655 and high tide around 1305. Local barometer 1008 hpa, 83% humidity, 18 degrees C. Have a good weekend.
