Dee Why 3pm Afternoon Update — Windy, flat.
Posted on February 5th, 2009 in Surf Reports.Sorry, but can’t offer you any encouragement to come to the beach for a surf this afternoon. Not any better than Don’s earlier reports from this morning. Got about 15 knots of NNE wind roughing up the surface and a roughly non-existent swell. You might find a knee to waist high set if you waited long enough. FWIW, I saw a few half-decent looking waves on the cam at Narrabeen a while ago, so probably your best bet if you want o go for a splash this arvo. Cheers, Rob
Freshy needs freshening
Posted on February 5th, 2009 in Freshwater.Yo one and all!

Freshwater follies unfold.
Your intrepid correspondent has made his way to the shade of Freshwater swimming club house balcony which affords him a fine view of the ever picturesque beach of that same ilk. Water looks spectacularly inviting, but not from a surfing perspective. There are little tiny things down in the south corner shere the weak little NE windswell is getting in, but basically it looks just about as small as it can get without being totally unsurfable. Such a maginificent morning.
Question for anyone who may have tackled the problem: What’s the best way you’ve found to make your notebook screen readable outdoors? I was thinking a box contraption might work, or a large towel to make a sort of tent effect… you can use the comments form under this or drop me a line or even tweet me at twitter.com/mr_realsurf
Scenes from south Curly

- Typical. Just as the section stands up, you have to kick out.
- A summery scene at south Curly

Heya, roving Don here. Stopped by Curly for a look and discovered it’s quite a bit busier than this time yesterday. The reason is plain to see; the waves are actually (in some cases) sort of catchable. You wouldn’t rave about the quality, but a couple blokes I talked to who were just getting out of the water said that it was lovely and warm, so one didn’t mind too much if the quality was objectively so-so. The wind’ll chew it up pretty quickly and there wasn’t much of anything showing up at the north end.
Next stop: lovely Freshy.

It’s summer and that’s that

Nothing doing at the point, little tiny ones along the beach.
Hello Friends,
As expected, we’re looking at another day of rather marginal conditions in Sydney. The data from our local waverider buoy (thank you MHL) is showing a metre of 7 sec east windswell. If you find yourself up near the border with Queensland, the size is still about the same and the period’s only a second longer. Just nothing much at all showing anywhere on the east coast.
The Bureau has posted a strong wind warning because it expects the current light NE winds to kick up into the 20-30 kt range this afternoon. So, if you scored something late last night, I’d be hitting the back key once we get toward the end of the day.
Outlook for the week ahead is not looking quite as hopeful as it seemed yesterday. At this stage it would appear that we’re in for more of the same. The Bureau is calling for a brief swing to the SE tomorrow, but it’s then set to go back to the NE. So, it’s the usual back and forth between NE and SE that we get this time of year.
Gonna head out later for a closer look at things, so check back for the updates.

Posted on February 5th, 2009 in Central Coast, Surf Reports.Fine, dry and warm on the Central Coast this Thursday morning. The swell is smooth, weak and small at 1 – 2 feet from the east. There is no breeze at the moment forecast to go northeast later. High tide 0450 and low tide around 1150. Local barometer 1007 hpa, 96% humidity, 22 degrees C. Have a good one.
