Kinda crowded
Posted on February 10th, 2009 in Manly.
Midday very crowded at Manly, particularly the south end.
For a south swell, this one sure is acting strangely. The biggest sets are down toward south Steyne and not up at Queenscliff. Just weird. A stupendous number of bods in the water at the aforementioned south Steyne, especially given the inconsistency of the swell. Still, it is glassy in that corner of the beach, so that’s got to be a major plus. Waves up at the Queensie end were strictly so-so. It was really a matter of having very crowded and inconsistent waves, or junky and inconsistent lumps. Your call…
Checkin’ it out Dee Why and Curl Curl
Posted on February 10th, 2009 in Curl Curl, Dee Why.Technology and your correspondent have a problematic relationship. This should have been online an hour ago, but the touchpad on my notebook decided to stop working… oh well.
After looking at Northy, I had a quick squizz at Long Reef. Wind was coming straight into it and there didn’t really seem to be much of anything going on there at all. Nothing much going on at the bombies, and pretty junky and flabby on the little ones coming in near the Lugga. Basically a write-off; no cars in the carpark to second the motion. Got a pic of a banner hanging up at the entrance to the carpark. So, it was off down to Dee Why for a bit of squizz.

Not looking too good at this point... but the rock was avoided in the end.

3-4 bucks a week is all it costs Carlos to get to the beach.
Headed over the hill to check the mighty Curly. The wind wasn’t as bad as I thought it might be, but the quality was very similar to Dee Why – ie long lulls, and sloppy and weak waves, punctuated every once in awhile by a bigger set. About the most interesting thing I saw was this guy catching sets right in front of the rocks off the end of the pool at the south end.

Looking good for 0.5 sec at south Curly.

Generally lacklustre, but as usual, if you're in the right spot...
Morning round up, part 1
Posted on February 10th, 2009 in Collaroy, North Narrabeen, Warriewood.Hello friends,
A bit late I guess, but had to do a meeting and couldn’t really get to this until now.

About 0800 the tide was too full for much in the way of quality.
First stop on this morning’s round was Warriewood. The wind wasn’t really an issue there, and it seemed as though a bit of swell was getting in too. But the tide was a killer. Only four people in the water because it was so fantastically inconsistent. Eventually a kneeboarder managed to get into a little thing. It faded out on him pretty quickly, but at least I got a shot. Naturally as I pulled out of the carpark, a more reasonable set showed up. Always the way.

0800 ish at Norffy was less than spectacular, but they were catchable.

Hello Friends,
Just a placeholder while I go out for a closer look at the situation…
Wind at 0745 around 10-15kts SSW.
Swell at MHL buoy showing south swell averaging 2 metres at 9 seconds.
High today expected to be 22.
The Bureau says:
Tuesday until midnight: Wind: S/SE 10/15 knots, increasing to S 20/30 knots during the afternoon or evening. Sea: about 1 metre, rising to 1 to 1.5 metres, then 2 to 3 metres in the evening. Swell: SE about 1.5 metres. Possible thunderstorms.
more soon…
cool, cloudy & decent
Posted on February 10th, 2009 in South Coast. Some decent waves in the 2-4ft range. I think it’s a mix of leftover ENE & new SE. A1 condx early in Sth ends with a cool SW breeze and some squally rain. Water temp is cool but not as chilly as y’day (thankfully). Worth a splash. Rosco.
Wax up baby!
Posted on February 10th, 2009 in Bondi, Bronte, Tama.Hey it’s not D’bah but it’s very much worth a session. Shoulder high on the sets and, although a little full now, will improve later. Bronte reef, Tama reef, Tama outcrop and South corner Bondi the picks. The banks in between these spots are all but gone but with a little wave action lets hope things are all on the improve.
My 5 year old son caught his first wave yesterday and the look on his face……brought back memories of me on my Kentucky Fried Chicken coolite in the 70′s. (God I’m old!)
Mona Vale
Posted on February 10th, 2009 in Mona Vale. The surf is still slowly picking up today, it’s pretty messy but should be sick by low tide!
3 feet- variable conditions today
Posted on February 10th, 2009 in Curl Curl, Surf Reports.2-3 feet out of the east with a light southerly early, picking up during the day. There is some OK waves about but hardly epic- can’t be too fussy given Huey’s recent track record. Manly looked full and weak at 2 feet and offshore- worth a paddle though. Swell should pick up during during the week as a low pressure system builds and hits us with some of the largest conditions we’ve seen for a few weeks but winds will be compromising from the SE, so don’t expect much. Enjoy.
Charts looking good, but where are the waves???
Posted on February 10th, 2009 in Dee Why.From all indications on the charts, Dee Why Point should be firing this morning:
SE Swell; 2-3m; 9-14 second interval–but instead, it’s the same old gutless dribble. Forecast still says it’ll happen–perhaps it’s just a waiting game now. Meanwhile, up the beach toward Longy there are a few little waves but it looks pretty ugly. Bad news for the surf is that the wind will come up later and wreck anything that wasn’t already trashed at Longy. Will keep an eye on it.
Cheers,
Rob
