Posted on February 17th, 2009 in Fairy Bower.Hello Friends,
Not even worth taking a picture at Curly as it was – predictably enough – blown out junk. So it was on to Manly. Like Curly, the Queenscliff end of the beach was just a write-off. Sadly, the situation as Big Al has already noted, was little better at the south end. There were a few people in the water testing the limits of the flaggeged area as they hunted for something worth the effort in the generally diabolically sloppy conditions. Here’s a question: when the local SLSC broadcasts warnings to surfers to get out of the flagged area, they always do it in English. So what happens if an international visitor is the offender? I’ve heard them going off at an apparently recalcitrant surfer and wondered to myself if maybe the object of the ire was blissfully unaware of their transgression.
The Bower was definitely cleaner and bigger yesterday when I checked it. This morning it just looked shocking. Really lumpy and messy out there. On the good side there were some okay size sets (see the pic below), so there is some swell around if you are super keen.
Warriewood to Dee Why
Posted on February 17th, 2009 in Collaroy, Dee Why, Warriewood.Hello Friends,
No good news on the surf quality front between Warriewood and Dee Why. The swell is still going, but so’s the wind and therefore the chop and general junkiness. I didn’t spy anyone in the water from Mona Vale to Collaroy. Warriewood, although somewhat protected from the wind, is just junky and uninteresting. Usually there are at least a couple desperados out giving it a go, but not today. It’s just another stretch of unoccupied beach with lowering grey skies.
Now I’ve been sitting at Dee Why for the last hour watching the waves and having a chat with the personable Mr Nick Chandler (you see his recruitment ad on the site from time to time). Yarning about the industry and all sorts as the ocean continues to be distinctly lacklustere.
As I write this, a quartet are out at the point dodging heaving sections for the odd two-turn wonder wave. So, onward to the south…
Manly
Posted on February 17th, 2009 in Surf Reports.Manly looked similar to yesterday morning, messy and lumpy this morning. Going on yesterday it could clean up and fire in the afternoon when the tide drops. But it all depends on the wind at the present its more east than south.

Queensie at 6:15 this morning

Posted on February 17th, 2009 in Central Coast, Surf Reports.Overcast and windy on the Central Coast this Tuesday morning. The swell is messy with heaps of water movement at 4 – 6 feet from the east southeast. There are strong east southeast gusts at 20 knots forecast to increase later. Low tide 0935 and high tide around 1510. Local barometer 1012 hpa, 80% humidity, 21 degrees C. Have a good one.

Narrabeen Rpt
Posted on February 17th, 2009 in Surf Reports.More of the same, I’m afraid. Swell is still SSE, as are the winds (and the rain, too)

ESE 20-25 knots — that should tell you what Dee Why looks like without having to see a photo…
Posted on February 17th, 2009 in Surf Reports.Couple of boogies jumped off the rocks at about 0630 this morning and have been bobbing around but not seeing too many being ridden. Crew of about 6 at 0745 but it’s looks like the inside of a milkshake maker for the most part. I almost considered switching the heater on this morning for a moment it was so cool at daybreak. Looks like we’ll get some ugly weather later today with some nasty storm cells headed our way. Things looking up though — it’s back to 27C by Friday.
