Eastern ‘burbs adventure
Posted on February 24th, 2009 in At large, Bondi, Maroubra, Tama. The likely lads decided to make the big trip from the northern beaches to the jewel of the eastern suburbs – Maroubra. Along the way we also had a squizz at Bondi, Tama, etc. But we ended up getting in the water at Maroubra ’cause it had the quality. Crowd wasn’t too big, there were heaps of peaks too. Mostly of short duration, but every now and then you could jag one that was up to shoulder high on the take off.
The wind was an ideal NW when we arrived, but not long after paddling out, it started to swing SE and to pick up. Vibe seemed pretty chill to me. Maybe it was due to the reaonably consistent nature of the little windswell and the fact that there were a number of peaks to choose from. As waves go, it sort of reminded me of Curly a bit. Water was clear too. My first surf there too, so kinda cool it turned out so fun.
Afterward we stopped by Bondi junction for some mex and a cerveza. Excellente senor!
- Most of the waves this morning were more like this...
- Bondi was mobbed, junky and not too interesting, but this guy did okay.
- Every now and then the sections would stand up and you could drive one.
- Not too special at Tama, but water looked pretty.
smokin on the south coast (but not the way we’d like)
Posted on February 24th, 2009 in South Coast.Crisp start, swells dropped and smoky skies. A few waves in the 2-3ft range – a bit of a mix of leftover SE with the strong NE’r yday turning it around a bit? Not brilliant but surfable. Water was nice y’day – assume same today. Rosco.
A few about still
Posted on February 24th, 2009 in Big Picture, Dee Why.Hello Friends,
Looks like Sydney’s in for a fine day and there should be a few waves to go with the sunny skies. Dee Why beach was witnessing the odd chest high set as we headed toward high tide at around 0745. Low will be a 0.33 at about 1417. Wind is set to be light from the N-NW at 10-15 kts ahead of a weak S-SE change this afternoon. The MHL buoy is showing a couple metres of east windswell at about 8 seconds apart, but there is still some 11 sec period component in the mix. So not great, but not hopeless either.
Those SE winds are due to stick around for the next couple days and it doesn’t seem as though we can expect anything much in the way of swell beyond the usual little wind waves. So, not going flat, but not going off either is the general outlook.
I’m planning to do a bit of a wander around to see what else is happening, so more later this morning…
Go well!

Posted on February 24th, 2009 in Surf Reports.Smaller, weaker, but just as fat as this time yesterday. Once we get past high tide, these shoulder-high bumps might shape up to look like something worth surfing, but at the moment they just look a bit sad

There is a light north northwest breeze forecast to go northeast and southeast later. High tide 0845 and low tide around 1515. Local barometer 1010 hpa, 98% humidity, 20 degrees C. Have a good one.
Byron Bay Feb 23 / 09

Really wasn’t much swell to speak of, In Byron Bay Today. But for the first time in a few weeks we saw the whole day through without rain, which had all the beach crew frothing at the mouth. The wind was light, the air was warm and the waves although really small, were clean and fun for logging at least. Town itself has a weird vibe on Mondays. It’s kinda of like everyone has just had one too many funky moments on the weekend. Of course reality is, most folks are OK it’s just a small percentage that are moving in slow motion. Be that as it may, down at the various beaches the people were happening, whether there was much surf or not. We managed to get a few good shots and had some fun in the process. So come on in for the full update In Byron Bay Today.

A southerly arrived early and laid waste to most surf options on Monday, but the east swell still had some legs and there were waves to be had at the Bower and Collaroy. So, I grabbed...
