Surfing NSW H/O — Surfing NSW in conjunction with Cronulla Surfing Academy have announced a series of high performance, high quality Elite Training Camps throughout NSW in 2009.

In an effort to bring together the hottest surfing talent within the state, under the expert tutelage of current and former professional surfers, the Elite Training Camps will focus on fostering the sublime talent of the best juniors surfers.

To be held in the best surfing locations across the state, the Elite Training Camps will see the Sydney, South Coast or Mid North Coast regions utilised for the betterment of the attendees.

Involving video analysis, nutrition and fitness tutorials to better prepare the individual for the grind of competitive surfing, each Elite Training Camp will look towards fine-tuning each surfer into an athlete.

Surfing NSW CEO, Mark Windon is excited upon the prospect of such a high quality, educational series of Camps taking place on our shores.

“The Surfing NSW Elite Training Camps will provide the junior surfers within the state an opportunity to learn first hand from the best in the business,” Windon said.

“It’s such a great initiative which could possibly see the next Stephanie Gilmore or Mick Fanning raised through our Camps.”

Blake Johnson and Blake Thornton, who are both Level 2 Coaches with extensive competitive experience, will form the nucleus of the coaching staff, with former ASP World Tour competitor John Shimooka also  involved in the Program; regularly bring in guest coaches or surfers to assist with the Camps.

One such current competitor involved is South African wonder-kid, and current ASP World Tour competitor, Jordy Smith – who will be attending the first camp at Lake Tabourie.

Surfing within our state is currently booming and the level of performance is through the roof, these Camps will hopefully push the kids to dizzying new heights,” Windon added.

“Not only will they learn the mechanics of becoming a more advanced surfer, they will also be schooled how to become a better athlete and deal with the life of a professional surfer.”

With the first camp set down for 20 -22 March 2009, at Lake Tabourie on the NSW South Coast, places are going fast – so don’t delay in booking your spot.
