WEEKLY   REPORTS  for    2009

Report No:   11-09

Period:           Monday 10th  till Sunday 15th March.

Monday.  High tides @ 5.32am & 5.53pm.  2 boat trips in the afternoon, one to Pebbles which had head high waves where the right wave would barrel & spit you out. The wind was variable so some stages of the surf were better than others. The other boat went to Y Tops which was also head high with a few bigger ones. A lot of barrels mainly on the end section, the deep section had spitting, round pits that looked insane. Both groups got about 3 hours in the water.

Tuesday.  High tides @ 6.16am & 6.38pm.  Again 2 boats to the same spots but an early this time. Pebbles was smoking today with a heap of kegs coming in. The inside section would wedge up to well overhead & some waves were as good as it gets. Everyone got tons of barrels & were stoked.

Y Tops was also on fire, a bit more solid than the previous day. Really wedgie takeoffs that would funnel off long racey walls. Not many turns just long fast walls. Both places were consistent.

Wednesday.  High tides @ 6.59am &7.22pm.  Today they motored down to Y Tops for a few hours. The swell had dropped overnight but it was still shoulder high so they scored good waves. There was the odd tube, mainly pumping & turns. No wind the whole time so it was glassy the whole surf.

Thursday.  High tides @ 7.41am & 8.06pm.  Today was Tiavea Rivermouth & it was all time. They got there right on sunrise to see head high, with bigger, sets peeling thru left & right. The right was tubing pretty much every wave, & super consistent. It had perfect shape that would allow a few turns after getting barreled. The whole place was pumping with great lefts off the point & huge barrels on the middle peak. 5 hour session & we were all stoked.

Friday.  High tides @ 8.24am & 8.52pm.  Early boat to Pebbles. There was no wind & it was sheet glass. The waves were head high & once again it had perfect shape & with only 5 crew out it was awesome. very consistent & a heap of barrels, all  were stoked. The inside section was the spot.

Saturday.  High tide @ 9.09am.  Today another early to Pebbles which was a touch big but still had some filthy waves coming in. Really hollow & round on the inside with lots spitting hard. The sets were head & a half with a few bigger than that. Light offshore the whole time & 7 guests got 6 hours of great waves. Again another great day of waves.

Sunday. High tide @ 10am.  For a change they headed to Coco’s which had some big bombs pouring in. Very clean but a bit sectiony, still with selection there were some really good waves on offer. Not many turns just long fast racey walls. After a few hours they headed to Wakas which was smoking. With a little over an hour on it till the tide got to low. There were some perfect tubes & long walls, another epic session. Coco’s had some double overhead sets & Wakas had head & a half sets.
