Full and weak- but hopeful for the low tide

Posted on March 24th, 2009 in Curl Curl, Surf Reports.

It’s full, weak and clean at about 2 feet now but it should improve a heap on the low tide after lunch today as the swell is predicted to rise a tad and the banks will drain out.  Not worth it now.  Manly looked much the same but onshore and messy. Enjoy.

Finally some swell to report!

Posted on March 24th, 2009 in Bondi, Bronte, Tama.

Nice swell to shoulderhigh at Bronte and Tama this morning. Bronte reef rightis working just fine, a little crowded early, Tama reef left is looking the goods too. Bondi a bit flukey but worth the trip for the social experience.

Hello Friends,

As PB’s noted, things are much the same this morning as yesterday.  The windswell is still loafing along at about 8 seconds, it’s 1.5 metres and coming from the ENE. The wind outlook is also a duplicate of yesterday, ie N-NE 10-15 kts early, reaching 15-20 kts later and peaking near 20-25 kts. So, as we often say under such circumstances, if you found something there yesterday, that should be your first stop today.

Dee Why looks a touch bigger from the crows nest this morning (see pic below), but you couldn’t get too thrilled with the generally messy surface conditions. Semi-exposed northern corners should be better. I might go for a bit of a look around soon, so check back  for an update again later.

Tuesday around 0745 looks messy but not flat.

Much the same as yesterday, from what I saw. Maybe the occasional shoulder-high bomb set, but otherwise not huge or impressiveNarrabeen 7.15am

Fine, dry and warm on the Central Coast this Tuesday morning.  The swell is semi-smooth and small at 1 – 2 feet from the east northeast.  There is a  light north northwest breeze forecast to go north northeast later.  High tide 0735 and low tide around 1405.  Local barometer 1014 hpa, 94% humidity, 17 degrees C.  Have a good one.

Reasons to be cheerful
Reasons to be cheerful

The swell kicked, the sun shone and the crowd was broadband particle transfer beamed straight into the lineup of you know where via you know what In Byron Bay Today. So we swiftly moved beyond the line of sight of those confounded contraptions and scored some sweet uncrowded barrels, which were well worth a play. The weather today was nothing short of spectacular and the waves were looking pretty funky too. Really I got to say it was nothing short of paradise In Byron Bay Today. Whether resident or visitor, everyone just seemed to be abuzz with energy as there went about their business. Which to be perfectly frank is a little unusual for a Monday. But there you go; one never can tell what will turn people on at any given moment. Today there was warm weather, crystal clear water and the sound, vibrations and energy of a brand new swell sweeping into the bay. Maybe that was just perfect recipe to fire folks up, In Byron Bay Today.

lunchtime run

Posted on March 23rd, 2009 in Surf Reports.

After a morning doing office-y stuff, I felt the need to get wet, so I wandered back to Curly to see what was what. Pretty busy it has to be said, but not a huge problem because there were peaks all over the place. Mostly they were fairly flabby and weak, but as has been the case for some time now, if you get one that focuses, there can be moments of push to be had. The NE’r has chilled the water down a bit I reckon, but it wasn’t exactly cold.

I imagine the mid to north corners will be worth the effort if you feel like getting a little something for the late. I’m giving it 4/10.

Bali Surf Report
Date = Sat, 23 Mar 2009
Time = 09:30 AM
Location = Padma – Legian
Size = 4-5 ft
Surfers = 5
Tide = mid tide
Wind = onshore wind
Weather = sunny
Water = glassy
Wave = big wave with consistent sets, but too much closing and power

Legian: High tide at Legian can serve up some of the most power-packed beachbreaks in the world. Always bigger than Kuta, although it usually closes-out on low tide. It also closes out on high tide if the swell is over 8 feet. Because Legian is in the curve of the beach, it collects the compressed energy of all swells. If Kuta is only 3 foot, sometimes Legian can be mignificent at 4 – 6 foot. A handy hint is that Kuta Reef is often about the same size at Legian. A hot crew of young Bali locals surf here regularly, so smile, share and be friendly to enjoy your sessions here.

Running around

Hello Friends,

Went for a loop from Manly to Northy this morning. Places with any exposure to the windswell direction were showing a little line. But being windswell, it almost always looked better than it really was. Of course coming off a high tide at around 0700 probably wasn’t helping much either.

Manly and Northy were the busiest, although on a wave quality scale they were only a little above Curly which had less than 10 folks in the water from one end of the beach to the other. Had to do a fair amount of waiting to get a snap of anyone on a wave. Dee Why and Freshy were pretty micro.

So, here, for what they’re worth are a few of the snaps I picked up on my wanderings this morning…
