Date = Tue, 07 Apr 2009
Time = 09:30 AM
Location = Padma – Legian
Size = 2-3 ft
Surfers = more than 20
Tide = mid tide
Wind = offshore wind
Weather = sunny
Water = calm and swim able
Wave = little bit consistent but most closing
Legian: High tide at Legian can serve up some of the most power-packed beachbreaks in the world. Always bigger than Kuta, although it usually closes-out on low tide. It also closes out on high tide if the swell is over 8 feet. Because Legian is in the curve of the beach, it collects the compressed energy of all swells. If Kuta is only 3 foot, sometimes Legian can be mignificent at 4 – 6 foot. A handy hint is that Kuta Reef is often about the same size at Legian. A hot crew of young Bali locals surf here regularly, so smile, share and be friendly to enjoy your sessions here.
Waves around this morning
Posted on April 7th, 2009 in At large, Gardens, Manly.Went for a splash at Manly around 0900. Wasn’t too crowded and there were some sets into the head high range. But they were often rather soft and fat and slow. As the tide dropped, the crowd ramped up and the waves got a little more oomph. South wind was providing a little chop though. Seemed to be waves from far south Steyne to Queenscliff and even a few little ones for the crew out at the Bower.
Coming back to Collaroy, I had a quick squizz at Curly and Dee Why. Only a few people up the north end of Curly and the southerly, though not strong, was into it. Dee Why was kinda messy and ordinary looking, but there seemed to be a few little ones at the point.
Had a peak at the Collaroy Narrabeen stretch as well. Still some waves there too, with the southern extent being the pick (but not Collaroy itself). Pretty minimal numbers in the water too, but the wind, as the pics show, was a factor.
out with the old ENE in with the new S
Posted on April 7th, 2009 in South Coast.ENE swell seems to be mostly all gone, replaced by fairly disorganised 2-3ft+ waves out of the S. Not bad condx early with a SW breeze, but early high tide and the wind forecast to go S not ideal. Probably worth a paddle if you’ve missed out the last week or so, but maybe a good time for a little bit of R&R or work before the Easter feast. Rosco.
Smaller but not flat
Posted on April 7th, 2009 in Big Picture.Hello Friends,
Definitely smaller this morning. But there were a few folks in the water at Dee Why beach rustling up some waist to chest high sets. The MHL data shows the swell is just a touch off SSE at a bit better than 9 seconds apart and averaging around two metres. Wind is out of the south at about 10 kts to start.
Here’s the latest call from the Bureau:
Tuesday until midnight: Wind: S/SE 15/20 knots.Sea: 1 to 2 metres.Swell: S/SE 2 metres.
Wednesday: Wind: S/SE 10/15 knots. Sea: to 1 metre. Swell: S about 2 metres.
Thursday: Wind: Variable 5/10 knots, tending NE 10/15 knots during afternoon.
BTW, if you’re near a tv at 0800 or so, Sunrise may have an interview with Mick Fanning who is currently posting the odd tweet about his activities and has just said he’ll be on at about that time. Reckons it’s pretty cold down that way as well.
(If anybody down that way wants to get a bit of exposure for their website in exchange for eyewitness reports on RealSurf, lemme know via the feedback form.)
Here’s a pic…

Posted on April 7th, 2009 in Central Coast, Surf Reports.Some cloud, some light showers and mild on the Central Coast this Tuesday morning. The swell is smooth (where I looked from Shelly to Forries) and small at 1 – 2 feet from the east. There is a light east southeast breeze. High tide 0620 and low tide around 1340. Local barometer 1020hpa, 98% humidity, 16 degrees C. Have a good one.

Yes folks the sun was shining nearly all day In Byron Bay Today. Add an offshore breeze, the remnants of an east swell, and a town rapidly filling up with Easter Bunnies. You’d have to say, it was rather joyous in the bay today. Now I’ve got to give you all a bit of a heads up if you’re coming to town for Easter. We’ve got some new banks, yeah, yeah big deal I hear you say. Just listen up a moment. These are not the gentle sweet lovable cutesy type of sandbanks that most surfing visitors to Byron expect. They will be in a few more weeks perhaps, but right now it’s ………………… In Byron Bay Today.

What a great weekend! So what if Huey didn’t deliver as expected – the sun shone, the wind blew offshore and there were waves! I burnt a bit of petrol cruising round...
