Bali Surf Report
Date = Sat, 11 Apr 2009
Time = 09:30 AM
Location = Padma – Legian
Size = 3-5 ft
Surfers = 20
Tide = high tide
Wind = offshore wind
Weather = cloud and sun
Water = strong flow
Wave = big wave, not really consistent and most closing, so different with right of Padma, there is nice and ride able

Legian: High tide at Legian can serve up some of the most power-packed beachbreaks in the world. Always bigger than Kuta, although it usually closes-out on low tide. It also closes out on high tide if the swell is over 8 feet. Because Legian is in the curve of the beach, it collects the compressed energy of all swells. If Kuta is only 3 foot, sometimes Legian can be mignificent at 4 – 6 foot. A handy hint is that Kuta Reef is often about the same size at Legian. A hot crew of young Bali locals surf here regularly, so smile, share and be friendly to enjoy your sessions here.

1-2 feet, small and weak

Posted on April 11th, 2009 in Curl Curl, Surf Reports.

It’s 1-2 feet at best, small and weak.  Crowd is minimal for good reason.  The tide is eating it all up right now (10.30am) but maybe when it drains out there will be a small wave a there was earlier. Outlook is bleak until around Thursday, at this point in time. Enjoy.

Whoops, dropped a fair amount

Posted on April 11th, 2009 in Big Picture, Dee Why, Gardens, Long Reef.

Hello Friends,

Hmmm. Thought it would be bigger this morning. But it isn’t. You’re going to have to hunt around this morning. The Collaroy-Narrabeen stretch has two or three very small and inconsistent (but at 0700, glassy) peaks. Size is struggling to get to chest high on the takeoff before rapidly slumping to sup waist high as you go along. An incoming tide (high at 0915) is not going to do it any favours.

Situation along the Dee Why to Longy stretch was pretty much the same. Great long stretches of smooth, still waters separating the little episodic peaks. Nothing happening at the point and nothing doing at the bombies. But it was glassy and the sunny. Nice day for a walk along the sand up the north end away from the rotting cunji and seaweed down toward kiddies.

Here’s the latest call from the Bureau:

Sydney Coastal Waters, Broken Bay to Port Hacking and 60nm seawards:
Saturday until midnight: Wind: variable to 10 knots, tending N/NE 10/15 knots in the afternoon and freshening to 15/20 knots later, chiefly offshore. Sea: less than 1 metre rising to 1 to 1.5 metres later. Swell: E/SE about 1 metre.
Sunday: Wind: N/NW 10/15 knots. Sea: about 1 metre.Swell: E about 1 metre.
Monday: Wind: SE/NE 10/15 knots.

At this stage, I don’t see any reason to hope for a major divergence from the Goat’s forecast. But I do like the look of some of the swell forecast interpretations for late in the coming week. We aren’t talking huge or anything, but there is at least a prospect of shoulder to head high plus E to ENE swell with light SE wind from around Thursday into the weekend.

Hope those super computers are right!

(Speaking of forecasts, it looks as though Tuesday and Thursday could be pretty interesting down at Bells.)

Go well!

The devout have assembled and are waiting patiently for their blessings.

Long wait, and a long way to the next peak, but payoffs do happen.

Byron Bay Weekend Windup Good Friday 09

Every bloke gets his moment in Byron Bay today.

It’s Good Friday In Byron Bay Today. Some went tochurch and  Mass, many went to the Bluesfest and we went surfing, which is our way of showing Huey that we are utterly grateful just to be on the planet today. We managed to find a sweet little beach break peak to share with just a couple of others in the bay. Which is interesting because elsewhere in town, two hundred plus people were all trying to surf the same break, go figure that one out?  Anyway, we’ve decided that Easter would be a good time to make a few changes to our site, as most of you guys are out enjoying the holiday rather than sitting at home online or at least I hope you are :-) .

So here’s what will change  In Byron Bay Today.
