The keen are on it in the last gloaming...

Evening all,

Started out okay this morning at the protected south ends, but once the ESE wind started working its evil magic, things fell apart. You could still get a wave if you didn’t mind the chop factor and size was anywhere from shoulder high to well overhead.

Outlook for tomorrow is for a decrease in size but also for a decrease in the wind too. With luck the morning will see it not too dramatically smaller, but with less wind than today.

Here’s the latest from the Bureau:

Thursday: Wind: SE/NE 10/15 knots. Sea: about 1 metre. Swell: E/SE 2.5 to 3 metres
Friday: Wind: N/NW 15/25 knots, turning W’ly 20/30 knots later.
Saturday: Wind: W/SW winds 20/30 knots.

First tide of importance on Thursday will be a high at 0638.

Longer term outlook is for swell to stay comfortably in the surfable range through Saturday morning. Beyond that currently looks like dropping back into the marginal range… but maybe Huey will change his mind in meantime!

Go well with your evening!

Bali Surf Report
Date = Wed, 22 Apr 2009
Time = 10:00 AM
Location = Tugu-Canggu
Size = 4-6 ft
Surfers = more than 20
Tide = low tide
Wind = onshore wind
Weather = sunny
Water = strong flow
Wave = big wave with consistent sets, mellow and power enough wipe smooth trough the shore

Legian: High tide at Legian can serve up some of the most power-packed beachbreaks in the world. Always bigger than Kuta, although it usually closes-out on low tide. It also closes out on high tide if the swell is over 8 feet. Because Legian is in the curve of the beach, it collects the compressed energy of all swells. If Kuta is only 3 foot, sometimes Legian can be mignificent at 4 – 6 foot. A handy hint is that Kuta Reef is often about the same size at Legian. A hot crew of young Bali locals surf here regularly, so smile, share and be friendly to enjoy your sessions here.

Manly snaps

Posted on April 22nd, 2009 in Manly.

Hello Friends,

Went down to Manly this morning to grab a few pictures at around 0730. Ran into a friend or three and ended up chatting for awhile. By the time I got back, the lovely conditions early at turned all junky and horrid. Still a fair number of folk in the water by late morning, particularly at the Bower and south Manly, but quality was way down. Coming back along the beaches at about midday and didn’t see anything of significance from Manly to Collaroy. The wind had chewed it all up…

Anyway, here are a few snaps…

North Steyne early. What can you say?

It’s on it’s way to being good again, maybe by late this arvo or tomorrow it should be clean enough to get back amongst your average beachie. MV today, you could get a few ones if your in the right spot, but it’s nothing special this morning.

Overcast, mild and dry on the Central Coast this Wednesday morning.  The swell is semi-smooth and still plenty of water movement at 3 – 5 feet + from the east southeast.  There is a light southwest breeze at the moment but forecast to go southeast and strengthen a bit later.  High tide 0555 and low tide around 1215.  Local barometer 1019hpa, 83% humidity, 16 degrees C.  Have a good one.

Messy world continues

Dee Why looking very slightly less messy than yesterday (0620)

Hello Friends,

At first light this morning, the wind had throttled back to around 10kts and the swell at sea was still charging along from the E by ESE at 3 metres with an average period of 10 seconds. I couldn’t see anyone in the water at Dee Why though because it’s still very disorganised and messy looking. However, it doesn’t seem to be quite as torn up as yesterday, so maybe a few more surf options will open up.

Here’s the Bureau’s latest marine forecast for the Sydney region:

Wednesday until midnight: Wind: SE 15/20 knots.Sea: 1.5 to 2 metres. Swell: SE about 3 metres, breaking dangerously close inshore.
Thursday: Wind: SE/NE 5/15 knots. Sea: about 1 metre. Swell: SE 2.5 to 3 metres
Friday: Wind: N/NW 15/25 knots, turning W’ly 20/30 knots later.

Today should see more cloudy periods with the odd shower and a high along the coast of around 22.

I plan to get out and about for more of a look later today, so I should be back with more thoughts then.

The way it was In Byron Bay April 21st 2009

Danny is that you?, well sure looks like you in Byron bay today

Well the wind backed off just a little In Byron Bay Today, it rained pretty heavily most of the morning then cleared to patchy rain by the afternoon. BTW did anyone hear that acording to Forbes Traveller Magazine, Byron Bay is one of the world’s 25 sexiest beaches :-) . Now what exactly is that supposed to mean? Byron’s a town not a beach, and what is it exactly that’s sexy about it? yeah yeah I know Delilah from Kazakstan last march sometime. Anyway if it’s sexy you want just look how deep it got in some of the barrels the bay turned on today.  Now here’s the drum, winter is descending on us rapidly. The sand banks are changing, this is normal for this time of year. However it’s always anyone’s guess where the new banks will settle. We’re not going to tell you where they are. But we will tell you this, you won’t find them by relying on the ‘you know who cameras pointing at the, you know what’. One of the banks has been discovered and is getting more crowded each day. But there are at least five more that are going unridden. So get out there and look people, because there are barrels going begging In Byron Bay Today.
