Another amazing day
Posted on April 28th, 2009 in Dee Why.Hello Friends,
Your crazy webmaster spent a couple hours shooting stills and vid at DY this arvo. Putting some pics up for main page, more in this post too.
It was extremely crowded on the main peak out in front of the SLSC. The point was busy too, but also smaller and less consistent than the beachy. I surfed there myself this morning and it was just as jammed and just as consistent then too. I’d love to know how many people got a wave off that peak today (must be hundreds) and how many waves came through (must be a couple thousand at least). And it was just one of numerous places where you could’ve surfed in Sydney.
And, from the look of the MHL data from up and down the coast, we’ve copped the best of the energy levels (biggest and longest periods).
Here’s the latest forecast from the Bureau for your consideration. From the look of the models, the swell should stick around for another couple days – at least. Looks as though the morning’ll be the go tomorrow.

Date = Tue, 28 Apr 2009
Time = 9.30 AM
Location = Padma – Legian
Size = 2-3 ft
Surfers = more than 20
Tide = high tide
Wind = calm offshore wind
Weather = bright
Water = fine and still swim able
Wave = little bit consistent with long enough of period, still fun
Legian: High tide at Legian can serve up some of the most power-packed beachbreaks in the world. Always bigger than Kuta, although it usually closes-out on low tide. It also closes out on high tide if the swell is over 8 feet. Because Legian is in the curve of the beach, it collects the compressed energy of all swells. If Kuta is only 3 foot, sometimes Legian can be mignificent at 4 – 6 foot. A handy hint is that Kuta Reef is often about the same size at Legian. A hot crew of young Bali locals surf here regularly, so smile, share and be friendly to enjoy your sessions here.
new lines out of the S
Posted on April 28th, 2009 in South Coast.I’m seeing 1-2ft+ lines out of the S, not materialising into anything too spectacular but looks promising for an increase through the day. Perhaps bigger sets at the S swell magnets. Good condx with a lite but very cool W/SW breeze early, NW now. Mid morning high tide not a big one but is still into it a bit. Rosco.
Still happening
Posted on April 28th, 2009 in Dee Why.Hello Friends,
Only fractionally smaller looking at Dee Why this morning compared to yesterday, but the swell has gone dead south. Average period is just a touch under 12 sec (with some 14 sec component in there). Once again, the beach is bigger than the point (since it’s more exposed). Sets are now into the head high plus range. Bomb sets will be bigger still. The point is closer to chest to shoulder high on average.
Lots and lots of bods in the water for the early, so don’t be expecting a solitary wave on the last day of school hols.
Definitely for experienced and advanced intermediate riders only today.
Here’s the latest from the Bureau:
Strong Wind Warning.
Tuesday until midnight: Wind: W/SW 15/20 knots reaching 20/25 knots offshore strengthening to 25/30 knots in the morning chiefly offshore. Easing to S/SW 20/25 knots overnight.Sea: 1.5 to 2 metres rising to 2 to 3 metres in the morning.Swell: S/SE about 2 metres.
Wednesday: Wind: S/SW 10/15 knots.Sea: about 1 metre.Swell: S/SE about 2 metres.
Thursday: Wind: S/SW 10/15 knots.
A few pics in this post from yesterday.

The way it was in Byron Bay 27th April 2009
Posted on April 28th, 2009 in Byron, Just for fun, Local Colour, Surf Reports.My God, I’m almost in shock, there was actually very little swell at all In Byron Bay Today. But if you know where to look on days like today there are still waves to be found. You just got keep on your toes, or you may lose em, to something big swimming past. The weather was just unreal today. As for the surf, well really after five months of good swells. Just one solid pulse after another which, is pretty much what we’ve had up here, who could complain? certainly not me. So come on in anyway because they was still something to play with and a good laugh to be had by all In Byron Bay Today. BTW looks like we could be on for more soon anyway and the new banks are looking funky.
