Windblown
Posted on May 31st, 2009 in Dee Why.Hello Friends,
Not the most spectacularly interesting morning. 20kts of ESE wind has made it very junky at Dee Why – and pretty much everywhere else in Sydney. Swell is SE and averaging a touch over at 2 metres. The dominant period is around the 8 second mark, but there’s some 10 sec stuff in the mix and that’s providing the odd overhead bomb set.
Naturally there aren’t too many takers given the conditions. If you haven’t had a chance to get a wave all week and this is your only opportunity, I’d say go. It’s a mess, but the competition for the better ones will be minimal pretty much anywhere you go. Although I’ve no plans for it today, I like to jump into the water on days like this once in awhile just to remind myself that it’s possible to have fun even when it looks very ordinary from the beach.
Have yourself a top old Sunday!
Sydney Coastal Waters, Broken Bay to Port Hacking and 60nm seawards:
Sunday until midnight: Wind: SE 18/23 knots. Sea: 1.5 to 2 metres.Swell: SE 2 to 2.5 metres. Chance isolated thunderstorms.
Monday: Wind: E/SE 10/15 knots Sea: 1 to 1.5 metres.Swell: S/SE 2 to 2.5 metres.
Tuesday: Wind: E/NE 10/15 knots.

Avalon’s Craig Goozee is off again – to raise money for cancer research
Posted on May 30th, 2009 in Good causes, News Stories.
Craig Goozee hopes to complete his ultra marathon in three months. Picture: Simon Dean
IT is an almost unimaginable feat for anyone to attempt, but yesterday ultra-marathon runner Craig Goozee put his shoes on and started a 12,500km run, cycle and kayak mission around Australia.
A former undercover policeman, Mr Goozee, 45, has previously completed two ultra marathons, but neither were as ambitious as his latest attempt.
While obviously possessing freakish endurance, Mr Goozee is also driven by the desire to honour his daughter, Jessica, who died from cancer at the age of nine.
An ambassador for the Children’s Cancer Institute Australia for Medical Research he hopes to raise $1 million throughout his run, dubbed A2B4C, to support the institute’s vital research programs.
His previous runs in 1998 and 2000 raised more than $650,000.
Yesterday morning he kayaked in to Manly about 9.30am before making his way to Avalon Public School, where he was greeted by impressed school kids.
His journey will see him run, cycle and kayak around Australia for three months, visiting towns in all parts of the country, before returning to Sydney about the end of August.
To support Mr Goozee call 1800 682 536 or make a donation online at http://www.a2b4c.com.au.

ores, weak waist-high swell
Brrr and showery
Posted on May 30th, 2009 in Big Picture, Dee Why.Hello Friends,
Cold this morning and the odd shower rolling through just adds to the resistance many of us will feel to exiting the doona zone for the early. But those sturdy types who didn’t mind pulling on a steamer when the temp was in the low teens might well have had the best of the days conditions.
Swell is a couple metres from the south at an average of 8 seconds apart and the tide has just gone low as I write this around 0730. This is translating into wave faces in the waist to head high range, depending on the set and, obviously, the degree of exposure of your beach.
I’m calling the wave quality early as average – neither particularly bad nor excitingly good. The short period means that there generally isn’t a lot of energy to work with, but when you get lucky and things focus on a peak, there’s enough to have fun.
Wind is currently light and offshore at Dee Why, but the Bureau’s call is for it to swing more to the s and the se as it ramps up into the 25-35 kt range. So the longer you leave it to stay warm, the more marginal it gets and the more limited your options.
Bureau says we can expect the odd shower through the place today (increasing overnight) and a chilly high for the day of about 16.
Great day for visiting the lifeline book fair at Balgowlah Boys High I’d say.

Byron Bay Today’s Weekend Windup May 29th 2009
Posted on May 30th, 2009 in Byron, Cool Picks, Just for fun, Local Colour, Surf Reports, Weather.Welcome to the In Byron Bay Today Weekend Windup. What an radical week it’s been. I mean seriously we’ve had it all. Storms, radical tides, huge swells, destructive wind and then the exact opposite, calm quiet and tiny swell. We got blessed with some classic barrels. The crew were excited and hoping it would last a few days. But it was a flash in the pan; it was all over in a matter of hours. But we’re a resilient mob here In Byron bay and some of us old salts will surf just about anything, with no more rationale for it than the idea of just getting wet. After all, surfing is meant to be about having fun. And fun was in plentiful supply as the end of the week saw small but utterly perfect logger waves slide on into the bay. The only sign of there ever being a storm at all was the dune erosion and the deep copper coloured water. This week has been massive we’ve all had to face destructive winds, floods, massive tides and swell. Yet it all fell back into perspective as the week rolled on, revealing itself as just another big event lived the way we do it here. One day at a time, In Byron Bay Today.
Properties Needed For Film and TV Locations
Posted on May 29th, 2009 in Advertorial, News Stories, Top stories.Hi All,
RealSurf friend Vantage Management is in the business of supplying cars and locations for film and TV productions throughout Australia . Currently we have a number of clients URGENTLY needing a whole range of properties to use as film locations both in Sydney and nationwide.
