From this morning
Posted on May 1st, 2009 in At large, Dee Why, Long Reef, South Narrabeen.Hello all
Went for a wander this morning to take some pics, but kinda got hung up at Mactier Street… two hours later, home, behind 8-ball with work… so these are kinda historical, but never mind!
Oh, and how warm is the water?? I was dying in my steamer. Still, like everyone else, I surfed my brains out and they were still coming when I left the beach…

David, Niels and Mattia from Italy snapped a couple sticks at south Narra, but they reckon it's still better than surfing back home.

Date = Fri, 01 May 2009
Time = 9 AM
Location = Padma – Legian
Size = 1-3 ft
Surfers = about 20
Tide = low tide
Wind = cross shore wind
Weather = cloudy
Water = calm and swim able
Wave = small wave, 1-2 ft waves dominant, not really consistent but power enough
Legian: High tide at Legian can serve up some of the most power-packed beachbreaks in the world. Always bigger than Kuta, although it usually closes-out on low tide. It also closes out on high tide if the swell is over 8 feet. Because Legian is in the curve of the beach, it collects the compressed energy of all swells. If Kuta is only 3 foot, sometimes Legian can be mignificent at 4 – 6 foot. A handy hint is that Kuta Reef is often about the same size at Legian. A hot crew of young Bali locals surf here regularly, so smile, share and be friendly to enjoy your sessions here.
Curly is 4-5 feet, offshore and low crowd
Posted on May 1st, 2009 in Curl Curl, Surf Reports.South Curly is tops with some classic barrels to be had with 4 feet of south swell, west wind and low crowd- everyone’s at DY!!! Shhhhh.
Want waves? We have waves.
Posted on May 1st, 2009 in Big Picture, Dee Why.Hello Friends,
Very crowded at the super peak in Dee Why this morning. After relenting a bit over the last couple days, the crowd is back for more. Around 40 people chasing head high to overhead sets before 0700. Swell is out of the SSE at a couple metres with a very useful juice setting of 11 seconds. Wind is out of the WNW at around the 10 kt mark to begin with but, if anything, it should weaken as the day goes along.
We’re approaching a low tide at 0750 which will then rise only a bit until 1353. I reckon that should mean fun waves all day at all the spots that have been working over the last few days. If anything there could be a few more options around because the dominant direction seems to have a touch more east to it.

The way it was In Byron Bay 30th April 2009
Posted on May 1st, 2009 in Byron, Just for fun, Local Colour, Surf Reports.There was a hint of the coming winter as a morning southwester came up, In Byron Bay Today. Yet the Gumby’s seem to prefer following the cam than looking elsewhere. So they spent all morning bouncing all over the place. Meanwhile back on the beach the crew in the car park were full of conjecture and opinion on when the wind would actually swing. Just when most were about to let it go , it swung around dropped in intensity and went gently offshore. The afternoon session quickly developed into classic autumn Byron bay. So surf it we did, before pulling out the gear to capture the afternoon crew as they ………..
