Sat morning pics
Posted on May 2nd, 2009 in At large, Curl Curl, Gardens, Long Reef.Hello Friends,
Got out and about with the camera this morning. Here are a dozen snaps mainly from Gardens, but including Curly and Longy too.
Mostly shot between about 8-930 – just before Huey turned the power down. As of midday we’ve gone from SE at 1.5 metres at 9 seconds apart to 1.5m south at 8 seconds apart around midday. The consequences are that waves are now much smaller and less frequent than this morning when I shot the following pics.

Heat 1 of the Jesus Pro-Am at Queensie

Jesus Pro-Am at Queensie

Jesus Pro-Am at Queensie Heat one
Its all happening at Queensie this morning with the Jesus Pro-Am in full swing. The event is on both today and tomorrow. Come on down and check it out, there’s lots of food and drink on offer as well as seeing a lot of great surfers in action. Took a couple of shots of the guys out in the first heat. There is only just enough swell but this guys made it look good.

Posted on May 2nd, 2009 in Big Picture, Dee Why.Hello Friends,
Energy levels have decreased over the last 24 hours, but it still looks to me as though there should be some surf options around the place – particularly as the main swell direction has gone more around to the SE. The MHL buoy is currently showing 1.5 metres on average with a period of 10 seconds. Wind is currently W to WNW at 8-10 kts.
Quite a number of folk chasing waist to chest high waves down at the Dee Why super peak.
Outlook is for a very gradual decline today and then the models show the primary direction going more to the east along with a slight increase in period for tomorrow and Monday.
Beyond that, the models have really been fluctuating around over the last few days. At the moment there looks to be the prospect of a potentially juicy but brief south pulse long about Tues afternoon.
Next tide is a low at 0854.
Here’s the latest from the Bureau
Sydney Coastal Waters, Broken Bay to Port Hacking and 60nm seawards:
Saturday until midnight: Wind: W/SW 5/10 knots, turning S 10/15 knots during the afternoon and reaching 15/20 knots at times during the evening.Sea: about 1 metre, rising to 1.5 to 2 metres later. Swell: S/SE 1.5 to 2 metres.
Sunday: Wind: SW/SE 10/15 knots. Sea: about 1 metre.Swell: S/SE 1.5 to 2 metres.
Monday: Wind: SW/SE 10/15 knots.

Byron Bay Weekend Windup 1st May 2009
Posted on May 2nd, 2009 in Byron, How To . . ., Just for fun, Local Colour, Surf Reports.Welcome to the In Byron Bay Today Weekend Windup. It’s been a fun week , especially for the logger crew. Unfortunately there hasn’t been much on offer in town for the Little Whiteboard’s, but they have been getting some funky beach breaks around the other side, so the crew aren’t missing out. Next Friday the 29th annual Byron Bay Malibu Classic will get underway. So we should see a few crusty old cruisers, well at least as crusty me, in the water over the next few weeks. One of our locals was injured at The Pass, by a beginner trying to surf crowded waves far beyond their ability. The rationale ‘I got to learn somewhere’. I can’t stress this enough people, beginners and crowded surf do not mix safely at all. If you’re a newcomer to surfing in the last few years, try reading our surf safety guide, it’s good for what ails you…… In Byron Bay Today
