A request from Ian:
hi there, Mate I’m an intermediate surfer in Dee Why. I’m looking for other like-minded keen surfers (25+) to meet up for the occasional surf (weekend, early mornings, etc). I’m not from Oz, and I’d like to join or form a group of friendly surfers. Any ideas? I couldn’t find any postings on your site but I might not be searching correctly. Cheers, Ian

Posted on May 13th, 2009 in Big Picture, Dee Why.Hello Friends,
I think we could be looking at peak day for this particular run of swell in Sydney. Overnight the average size has bumped up a touch, but more importantly the average power level has gone up from 10 sec yesterday to an average of 11 sec. Swell is looking pretty mature to me. Nice long lines giving that palpitation-inducing corduroy look to the ocean.
Outlook is for the swell to stick around all day and for the wind to remain light and offshore with fine and sunny conditions all day. High tide’s just before 1100.
From the models’ prognostications, it appears that tomorrow will be pretty fun in the morning but getting breezy in the afternoon. Then it seems we’ll get small to flat across Friday into Saturday, before a fresh serving of south swell arrives for us on Sunday.
Here’s the Bureau’s call

Fine, dry and cold on the Central Coast this Wednesday morning. The swell is smooth and big. Still with a lot of water movement at 3 – 6 feet from the southeast. There is a light west southwest breeze forecast to strengthen later. Low tide 0505 and high tide around 1055. Local barometer 1012hpa, 97% humidity, 7 degrees C. Have a good one.
The way it was In Byron Bay May 12th 2009
Posted on May 13th, 2009 in Byron, Just for fun, Local Colour, Surf Reports. It was pretty damned pleasant In Byron Bay Today. We saw a minor increase in swell, and a gentle decrease in the wind. A few clouds meandered on past, yet they held their load for other destinations. All in all it was very nice indeed. There are long logger lines in the bay and some reasonable shite peaks around the other side….. In Byron Bay Today.

A southerly arrived early and laid waste to most surf options on Monday, but the east swell still had some legs and there were waves to be had at the Bower and Collaroy. So, I grabbed...
