Surf Forecast issued Thursday 28 May 2009:  weekend outlook for Sydeny:

Well how about that – Ken said he had some good waves through the week… Good for him.  So here comes the weekend, and we’re looking at …ppy conditions…(and that ain’t happy!).  Swell’s coming up from the south with wind and showers to go..Oh how it pains me to smile…

Friday: about 2 metres at places that like dead south swell… but it’ll have fresh wind with it.

Saturday: 2-3 metres South and windy.

Sunday: 2-3 metres South East.

Monday: about 2 metres South East.

Water temp is about 23.

Interesting day at Dee Why — Waterspout!

Posted on May 28th, 2009 in Dee Why.

Didn’t last very long but it was pretty freaky for about 15 mintues. Came out of nowhere, churned up a lot of water into the sky then disappeared…

Dee Why about 1220 today

Dee Why about 1220 today. Wonder what the folks on that boat were thinking about now...

surfable but not great

Posted on May 28th, 2009 in South Coast.

a 2-3ft mix of fairly uneven leftover E and new S/SE swell with a touch of extra bumpiness from the o’nite S change. Wind was a lite but cool SW early and forecast to be heading more S as the day wears on. Surfable but nothing too special. Rosco.

Cool morning with waves

Posted on May 28th, 2009 in Big Picture, Dee Why.

Hello Friends,

Did you get waves there yesterday? I’d go have another look at it today then. It’s dropped overnight, but if Dee Why’s any guide, you should still be able to extract a bit of juice from the longer period sets. Average size at sea is around the 1.5 metre mark. Sadly, the average period has dropped to 8 seconds (from about 10 yesterday). Some of the 10 sec component is still showing in the MHL data, so I expect that accounts for the chest high sets I saw at Dee Why when I grabbed this morning’s snaps.

Tide was low enough to get the peaks working, but it’s been headed toward the 1130 high since 0533. As it fills in, I’d expect conditions to go ordinary most places.

Here’s the Bureau’s call:

Sydney Coastal Waters, Broken Bay to Port Hacking and 60nm seawards:
Thursday until midnight: Wind: S/SW 10/15 knots increasing to 15/20 knots during the morning. Sea: around 1 metre, rising to 1.5 to 2.5 metres. Swell: SE 1 to 1.5 metres.
Friday: Wind: S 15/20 knots, increasing to 20/30 knots in the morning. Sea: rising to 2 to 3 metres. Swell: S/SE 1 to 2 metres.
Saturday: Wind: S 20/30 knots.

Chilly morning didn't deter the early morning shift from grabbing a few sets like this.

C C Small

Fine, dry and mild on the Central Coast this Thursday morning.  The swell is smooth and small at 1 – 2 feet from the east.  There is no breeze at the moment but forecast to go southwest then south southeast later.  Low tide 0535 and high tide around 1130.  Have a good one.

Small but fun & Nose ride city for the logger crew In Byron Bay Today
Small but fun & Nose ride city for the logger crew In Byron Bay Today

Absolutely glorious would be a fairly accurate description of the weather, In Byron Bay Today. The sun shone, the winds were light and the waves were good fun for old school logging. There were also a few good banks further up the beach with some nice chunky peaks for the Little Whiteboard set, which is cool but we missed that session today.  Now the water in Byron is still brown from the floods, and it’s likely to take another week or two to clear up a bit. The mess is starting to be cleaned up and life is starting to get back to whatever it is that passes for normal around here. It was a refreshingly gentle day for us and many others, In Byron Bay Today.
