Wave Pools: Good or Bad for the Sport of Surfing?

Posted by: on June 3rd, 2009

A very interesting article from 5ones.com. In a recent ESPN article, Kelly Slater listed somethings he would like to see changed as to the way the ASP runs and operates, including the introduction of wave pools. The author of this article agrees. Interesting to hear RealSurfers’ thought on the matter.

It would be a fair way to judge the surfers. waves could be almost identical so the riders have equal opportunity to ride the same wave. It would also be better for the crowd as you could see them surfing from all angles as wave pools could cater to a dome like arena. We need wave pools in aus for the flat days. More people going to them should surely make them cheaper to go to and make everyone happy

Great! Get them out of the ocean. More waves for us mere mortals. Where can I donate to build pools for pros and wannabes only?

Well some times they run the contest in swells that are sub-wave pool so yeah why not!! you could have bands playing beers and grandstand style stuff happening… might be fun!!
