Another attempt with the new lens!
Posted on June 4th, 2009 in Surf Reports.Okay, I don’t normally post comments with my pics but……….
A few have been enquiring about what the new lens is, and also what type of gear I use.
The new lens, which I am still coming to grips with, is a Canon 135 L F2. Very sharp lens, stunning portraits, and a possible great candidate as a channell shooter.
I’ve had mixed results, it weighs a fair bit, and also having to shoot with a dry port has its own isues.
The waterhousing I use is a Dave Nelson Custom, designed specifically for my camera, its one schmick housing designed and created by one amazing guy.
This morning was another attempt, with mixed results but better than my previous attempts so getting there slowly.
Have a great weekend.
Small but not flat
Posted on June 4th, 2009 in Big Picture, Dee Why.Hello Friends,
Running very, very late this morning… apologies. Surf situation along the northern beaches continues along much the same lines as yesterday, ie waves in the waist to chest high range with the odd bigger one. Not much of any wind as of 1000, but it is due to swing to the NE this afternoon.
Swell is now out of the east at a couple metres with a power setting of 8 seconds. What this means for Dee Why is that there are some amusing looking things folding over and running both directions in the general vicinity of where the fabled super peak has been for the past month or so. There were a couple folks at the point, but it seemed pretty weak and small. East swell and the point really don’t get along all that well together.
Outlook remains for the energy levels to gradually fade as we go into the weekend and then to be pretty small and weak through Sunday. The models are showing a small, but longer period south to SE pulse filling in Monday morning. With luck that will translate into waves of similar size to this morning’s conditions.
Next tide is a low at 1127.
Go well one and all!

Saturday: Wind: W/SW 10/15 knots.

Foggy, dry and mild on the Central Coast this Thursday morning. The swell is smooth and rising at 1 – 3 feet + from the east southeast. There is light northwest breeze forecast to go northeast later. High tide 0530 and low tide around 1125. Have a good one.
Byron Bay June 3rd 2009
Posted on June 4th, 2009 in Byron, Cool Picks, Just for fun, Local Colour, Surf Reports. It started off moisty and dark but things steadily improved In Byron Bay Today. The swell backed off a little providing some reasonably surfable peaks around the ocean side, and some little logger lines in the bay. Town is still really quiet, but no doubt that’ll change, with the long weekend, which usually see’s the town swell in numbers for a few days. With a bit of luck we could be seeing some better waves soon too. If you’re into Dolphins you may like to go for a walk in the bay and check it out. We’ve spotted them playing close to shore for the last 4 days in a row. It’s good for the soul to see the wildlife at play while out and about In Byron Bay Today.

A southerly arrived early and laid waste to most surf options on Monday, but the east swell still had some legs and there were waves to be had at the Bower and Collaroy. So, I grabbed...
