Byron Bay Today June 4th 2009
Posted by: Big Ben on June 5th, 2009I woke this morning and the first thing I noticed was a definte deeper bass note to the sound of the surf In Byron Bay Today. The sun came out around lunch and the temperature quickly raised getting folks out and about for a beautiful afternoon in the bay. It was balmy with light winds and a rising easterly swell just to cap it off. There were some reasonable peaks to be found on both sides of the cape, plus there was a little more punch to the swell as well. This had a few pulling out there little whiteboards in the bay, big mistake. The thing is the sandbanks right in the heart of Byron simply are not doing what they were two months back. They aren’t producing the right wave for real shortboards at the moment, it’s too soft. The guys on the fishes and eggs were cooking and some logs were going to town. But the crew that wanted to ride the really little ones still needed to get around the open side to tap into the power required to ride them properly, those that didn’t still got frustrated. This is not a bad thing, the wind has been really light lately and there are banks on either of the cape. So the whole crowd has been spread out over several different breaks depending on their ability and what style of board they’re riding. The end result being that if you chose correctly it was a no brainer to score some really fun and uncrowded waves In Byron Bay Today.
