Byron Bay June 7th 2009
Posted by: Big Ben on June 8th, 2009Sunday started with a bit of a rumble from the northwest and some rain. But by lunchtime it absolutely stunning In Byron Bay Today. Twas no surprise town was busy, it’s a long weekend anfter all. But the beaches were really quiet. This is because for the first time in a long time, there was hardly any swell in the bayat all. There were some little waves in and around the Shire. So we soon uncovered a few nice peaks with a small crew on each happily mucking around. After we hit the Lighthouse, as it’s now officially the start of whale watching season. Right on cue there was a pod of the big fellow’s way, way , way out wide. We spent some time angling for a shot, but they were just too far out of range. The best we could manage was a huge out of focus splash in the distance dwarfing a boat full of folks following the beasts. Regardless of the vast distance, the crowd gathered at the lighthouse were making all the appropriate squeals of delight at the spectacle of breaching whales. Even if those whales were a long way offshore. It was kinda cool to witness all those stoked people getting a dose of what they had come for, In Byron Bay Today.
