Saturday wrap
Posted on June 13th, 2009 in Dee Why.Hello Friends,
Swell faded through the day, but there were still the occasional bomb sets at the really exposed spots. I spent some time hanging out with a couple mates at Dee Why, so I got a good chance to check out the action at the beach and point. There were a couple zones of intensity along the Dee Why to Longy stretch – one at the super peak and another up toward the pole. Very big crowds on both of them but I’d say one or two waves would’ve made it all worthwhile. Around 3pm I decided to get wet, so paddled out at the point. Pretty quiet and only three or four of us bumbling around grabbing the little waist to chest high sets. Definitely nowhere near as good as the beachy, but the crowd setting suited me down to the ground on this particular occasion.
I’ve got Panasonic’s FT-1 waterproof point and shoot camera to test out at the moment, so I took it with me this afternoon and grabbed a couple snaps. The water shots weren’t interesting enough to share (protecting the identities of the innocent).

Posted on June 13th, 2009 in Surf Reports. There were some decent 2-3 foot sets through today but the wave-to-surfer ratio was not great.
This sort of sums it up…

2-3 feet of south swell and dropping
Posted on June 13th, 2009 in Curl Curl, Surf Reports.2-3 feet of south swell with no wind early. Crowd is medium to high but not as bad as Dee Why has been lately. Plenty of waves with a consistent swell but its dropping fast and the tide is filling in with the low around 6.30 or so this morning. New swell due around Monday with SE winds. Bid swells due in WA and Indo this week should make for some good video action from the usual sources. Enjoy.
C C Smaller
Posted on June 13th, 2009 in Central Coast, Surf Reports.Fine, dry and cool on the Central Coast this Saturday morning. The swell is smooth and smaller at 1 – 3 feet from the southeast. There is light west northwest breeze. Low tide 0600 and high tide around 1200. Local barometer 1015 hpa, 9 degrees C. 84% humidity. Have a good weekend.
We still have waves, but go now
Posted on June 13th, 2009 in Big Picture, Dee Why.Hello Friends,
Fair amount of cloud overhead at first light this morning. Swell has dropped a fair amount in the last 24 hours and is now averaging a touch under 2 metres from the SSE at around 9 seconds apart. Wind’s not going too hard as the day gets started. Doesn’t look as though it’ll get tremendously stronger later either.
Having to wait for the light to increase enough to grab a snap, but in the meantime I can tell you that there were 25+ people in the water from first light at Dee Why beach. Waves are in the chest to head high plus range on the biggest ones and it looks pretty clean. Saw a couple four wave sets in the brief time I was watching, so that’s a good thing. A few bods in the water at the point as well, but it looks roughly 30% smaller than the beach.
Will update the post as soon as I get enough light to grab a pic…
Next tide is a high right on noon.

Byron Bay June 12th 2009

- Empty and tasty, on a day when they said no waves. I reckon you just gotta look a little harder sometimes, In Byron Bay Today.
Welcome to the In Byron Bay Today Weekend Windup. It’s been one of those classic winter weather patterns up here during the week. We’ve had striking blue skies, clear water and offshore winds. Of course the price for this weather is cold nights and frosty mornings and fairly small sweel. Also the bay itself, is cross shore in any version of a westerly. But the open beaches are a different matter. There have been some sweet little waves to be had every day this week. It wasn’t huge, but it was plenty of fun and it’s all been mighty pretty. It’s also been a laugh watching the groms doing flips off the eroded dunes. Now we’ve all been warned of the danger. But you know I’m guilty of doing exactly the same thing when I was a little bloke. And I’m still doing it my middle age. So who am I to say not to jump In Byron Bay Today.
