A dozen from Northy this morning.
Posted on June 23rd, 2009 in North Narrabeen. Before heading off to the Bower for a surf, I went down for a closer look at Gardens and then Northy (where all the pictures in this post come from) Gardens was not looking as good as it had an hour or two earlier when I took the first set of pics this morning. There were a few bods struggling to hold position in the powerful sweep, but for the effort that had to be put in, the payoff was not that good. I checked there again around 2pm to see if anything had changed. It hadn’t.
I wasn’t at Northy for very long, but it was firing, so I was able to get some video and stills. It was very crowded so you wouldn’t really recommend it to anyone looking for a laid back surf session. I should imagine the vibe level out there was all business.
Anyhoo… here are just a small sample from my shooting session. Once again, if you happen to want one in high res, contact me via the feedback link at the top of the page.

A few snaps from the Bower at midday
Posted on June 23rd, 2009 in Fairy Bower, Surf Reports.Hello Friends,
Jumped in the water at the Bower for a bit of the swell. Had a waterproof Panasonic camera (the DMC-FT1) to play with, so I grabbed some piccies for you… Anyone who’d like a high res, just use the feedback link in the top menu to let me know. I was having issues with the focus (probably not set correctly) so not all the other shots are sharp enough to use. But there are other shots.

plenty of juice, still a bit of bump in it.
Posted on June 23rd, 2009 in South Coast.Blue skies, cool offshore and plenty of waves. 3-5ft+ out of the ENE. I reckon its a bit more even and possibly a bit bigger than y’day arvo but still with a fair element of ENE bump making it not quite epic but good fun/interesting. Quite a bit of water moving around and the early high tide not ideal but worth a paddle. Water still warm (~20C?). Rosco.
It’s on

Lots on it from first light... and you can see why.
Hello Friends,
Sorry about the very late report, but naturally I had isp issues this morning. Big Pond cable is crawling for me atm. Anyway, who cares? It is going orf at spots that like the east swell. But it’s not so hot at those that don’t.
I’m going to post this report as a sequence of updates so that I can get something online asap.

Let's see... could it be any better?
The Northy to south Narrabeen stretch is getting the swell very nicely indeed. Northy had a good 30-40 people in the water when I checked about an hour ago. There were only a few down toward Gardens. Sets were solidly overhead and very clean looking. Definitely for experienced surfers only. If you aren’t pretty fit, you could run into problems pretty easily.

Want relatively uncrowded waves and willing to take a (small) hit on quality?

Bodyboarder gets one at the point

Swell kinda getting in here, but not the top spot on the beaches today.
Around at Dee Why to Longy, the situation was not nearly as interesting. There are little waves as far north as about No Man’s, but the swell angle just has not worked for Dee Why (it rarely does). Some okay size and there are waves both at the point and in the corner. Size on the biggest ones I saw I was approaching head high.
I’m heading out with a camera or two to see if I can find any other pics for you today. Go well!

Byron Bay Today June 22nd 2009
Posted on June 23rd, 2009 in Byron, Comment, Just for fun, Local Colour, Surf politics, Surf Reports, Weather.Well there was definitely a little less rain than yesterday, but it was still a tad damp In Byron Bay Today. There are a lot of folks getting around town at the moment espousing how weird this weather is. But when all is said and done, Byron bay is pretty much sub-tropical, which can mean heavy rain at times. We’ve seen this all before. The waves aren’t huge, but it is heavy and messy right now. Most are giving it a miss. But the hire board crew keep fronting up and just get slammed or swept down the bay. Can’t help but wonder where’s the duty of care, when boards are hired out to complete novices in conditions like this?
Who knows, no doubt it’s an issue that will come up one day. Anyway, there’s plenty of messy east swell and there’s actually some inviting looking sections. Problem is the sweep doesn’t let you get to them. Oh well it’s great weather for ducks, In Byron Bay Today.
