Watershots from Dee Why

Posted on June 25th, 2009 in Dee Why.

Hello all,

Been awhile since I had a water camera and a chance to surf the point. Put those two together from around 1100 to around 1400 and came back with a few keepers to share. An extremely fun sesh too. Crowd ranged from 4-10 depending, so it was no drama for your ancient mariner correspondent to snag a few as well. Had such a good wave (in that I surfed it about as well as I can surf) for my last one too. Dontcha love when you can finish up on a really good wave? Just leaves ya glowing I reckon. Anyhoo, herewith a sample of the pics I got. I’ll be posting everything I shot later over on my own site just in case anyone in the water wants one.

Pulling into one after another - as usual.

Dee Why looking swell

Posted on June 25th, 2009 in Dee Why.

Hello Friends,

Just climbed up into the crow’s nest for a squizz at the ol’ DY. Here are a couple shots of sets. Seem a little infrequent to me.

Running late, sorry

Hello Friends,

Sorry, slept in. How remiss of me. Looks like we still have swell though. Woo-hoo! Huey’s still got the power setting on 10sec, but he’s set a new heading: SE. Heights at sea are around the two metre mark, so there are some fun size waves to be had again today.

Stopped at Mactier St for a look at the situation around 0840 and can report that there were some shoulder high sets on offer for a smallish and well scattered crew. It was dead glassy and there was a high, thin cloud layer taking some of the colour out of the scene. It looked a little setty to me and folks seemed to be getting caught behind on most of the waves I saw caught. Lefts predominate again.

Didn’t do the loop up to Northy, but from a distance it’s clear that there are sets happening up that way as well.

For those folks at the Bower yesterday who wanted to know when/where they could see the pics I shot with the Panasonic FT-1 waterproof digi cam: I’ve created a couple galleries over on my personal page that you can look through to see if I got any shots of interest.

Okay, a couple pics for ya:

ene swell on the wane, strong offshores

Cracking waves y’day, early signs looks like its dropped a fair bit o’nite. 2-4ft waves out of the ENE with a stiff W wind blowing the backs off ‘em. Swell is forecast to ease further so probably best bet to get amongst it earlier than later if you can. Water still warm but plenty of wind chill. Rosco.

Fine, dry and cold on the Central Coast this Thursday morning.  The swell is smooth and inconsistent at 2 – 3 feet  from the east northeast.  There is light west northwest breeze.  High tide 1020 and low tide around 1555.  Local barometer 1007 hpa, 7 degrees C. 94% humidity.   Have a good one.

Byron Bay Today June 24th 2009

Easy come easy go, the joyous barrels of yesterday were not to be seen, In Byron Bay Today. Don’t get me wrong here, there were waves to be had.  But after yesterdays moments of cheerful cover ups we all had our expectations wound up to max overload. And of course we all know what happens if you get your expectations too high. You get brought back to earth with a resounding thud. The weather however was almost pleasant beyond belief and the light was mind blowing this afternoon. But the waves, well let’s just say it’s not hot. We seem to have two swells crossing up at the moment or least that’s how it looks from the cape. There’s a dominant easterly swell which is not straight to start with, and a softer smaller south swell running through it. End result the waves are twisting and bouncing all over the place, creating some pretty junky sections, In Byron Bay Today.

Shacked at DY

These were definitely not the biggest ones today but it was pretty tricky, even on these.

You can’t tell from here, but that’s Toby Martin in there…
