Jagged a few, how ’bout you?

Posted on July 1st, 2009 in Long Reef.

Hello Friends,

Did you manage to get any of the swell today? Yours truly left it until mid-afternoon, but got some anyway since the conditions were basically good all day long. Well, weather conditions were good. The swell height stayed pretty much around the metre mark all day, but Huey swung the direction lever from SE to just about dead east. He also played around with the power setting. This morning at first light it was a touch under the 8 second mark, at noon it was averaging just on 10 seconds, before dropping in mid-afternoon to 8 sec and, in the last little while before bumping back to 9 sec. A second doesn’t sound much maybe, but it can make a perceptible difference in the juice levels on the sets.

I joined about 20 others on the banks between the lagoon entrance and just north of the pole. We were getting a few sets into the chest high range, if not a touch bigger, so it was well worth the effort. Wind was brisk, but not crazy and the sun was shining.

I had the Panasonic FT-1 along for the ride and so was able to grab a couple snaps to share…

Outlook for tomorrow is for cloud and increasing winds. Here’s the latest from the Bureau:

Next tide is a low at 1002.

Sydney Coastal Waters, Broken Bay to Port Hacking and 60nm seawards:

Little waves on tap

Not quite as good as one might have hoped, but there are little ones to be had.

Hello Friends,

There were some pretty fun and juicy looking waves around yesterday evening (as selected spots). The swell had come around to the SE and bumped up into th 1.5m range, but the key change was the period which jumped (briefly) from 7 seconds at first light to around 11 mid afternoon. And there was some 15 second component in the mix.

Sadly, this morning sees the average period back to 8 seconds, and as a consequence it’s much smaller on average than it was yesterday arvo. The only bright spot is that the Sydney buoy is still showing some 14 sec period swell around the place. That should mean the occasional bomb set into the shoulder high range at spots with good exposure to the SE.

Wind is currently out of the west at 15-20kts and the next tide is a low at 0913.

Gotta jam, will try to post again later.

2-3 feet at best and swell is dropping

Posted on July 1st, 2009 in Curl Curl, Surf Reports.

How was the swell last night! Peaked around 4 feet with 14 secs of period.  It was a bit straight and full but plenty of waves.  Today the period has dropped back to about 9 secs and we have 2-2.5 feet of SE swell with NW winds.  Tide is dropping out about 9.30am so the beach is looking good this a.m. with medium crew numbers. BIG swell due on the weekend and I’m heading 4 hours south to greet it.  Enjoy.

Fine, dry and mild on the Central Coast this Wednesday morning.  The swell is smooth and inconsistent at 2 – 3 feet from the east.  There is light north northwest breeze forecast to go west northwest later.  Low tide 0915 and high tide around 1555.  Local barometer 998 hpa, 9 degrees C. 96% humidity.   Have a good one.

Life is not fair sometimes

Well the higher tide certainly cleaned things up again this evening with lots of fun waves on offer. Weird banks at the moment but you can still find a few gems out there!!!!

Yesterday evening we were treated to some fantastic waves with the swell building through the afternoon and Queenie almost resembling a right hand point break at  high tide with solid four foot sets hitting. This morning we wake and its head high at best and the quality has dropped right off. A shame. Its still more than worthy of a paddle but after last night its a bit like eating a cold stale pie. Have yourselves a top day.

There wasn’t much change today in the bay, as Talking heads once put it. Same as it ever was. We’re in that flat westerly winter cycle right now. But there’s hope on the horizon. If you don’t mind dragging a log or a fish with a little extra floatation out for a spin, you’ll find some pretty sweet little peeks around the open side. Just do yourself a favour and go for a walk. To get away from the Wicked Van set. If you’re a little lost for something to do, check out our ‘Most Popular Images of In Byron bay Today’ for January 09 based on what you guys have clicked on the most. Now we’re no longer that surprised by what’s coming up as the most viewed. In fact we’re seeing a pattern emerging in this whole exercise. Question is can you see it too?

Don’t forget tomorrow we’ll be putting together the ‘Most Popular Images of In Byron bay Today’ for February 2009.There was some pretty nice waves back then so keep an eye out for it.
